CNN pundit and former speaker of the house Newt Gingrich joined the growing chorus of supporters for suspended Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson on Thursday, comparing the duck-call mogul to Pope Francis on his show, Crossfire.
Robertson was suspended from the show by A&E after making anti-gay remarks to GQ magazine – but according to Gingrich, the comments were nothing short of “remarkable.”
“Ironically, if you read the whole interview, not just take one section, he talks very specifically about loving everybody,” Gingrich, a former Republican presidential candidate, said on Crossfire. “He talks very specifically about not being judgmental toward anybody, that’s God’s decision, not his. I mean, it is remarkable. There’s sections there where he sounds like Pope Francis.”

Gingrich conducted a panel discussion on his show Thursday night about the Duck Dynasty suspension alongside co-host Van Jones, Concerned Women for America head Penny Young Nance and sports commentator LZ Granderson, the latter of whom pointed took issue with Gingrich’s defense that the Duck Dynasty star was simply quoting the Bible (Corinthians, to be specific).
“The Bible has been used throughout history as a way to oppress the minority,” Granderson told Nance. “Wherever the majority is, they’ve always found the right verse — to justify slavery, to justify keeping women.”(continued)

Truth be known, I think the overwhelming majority of indignant critics have no idea what Robertson said. Just the usual herd of angry sheep who express outrage when the liberal next to them bleats “I’m offended!”

I tried to tell my wife today, this thing is the biggest social media explosion I’ve seen in a long time.
The intensity from both the left and right is extremely high.
This has also sparked a debate between the Christians who are more traditional and those who think God’s Laws must conform to man. Within that debate is the important debate within the Catholic Church, as well. The liberal Obama voters are being schooled on Catholic teaching regarding homosexual behavior as well as homosexual marriage.
It’s a sight to behold, a real Duck phenomenon. Also, the “Ask a Priest” Facebook page had taken a very strong stand for the Mighty Ducks.
Ah, little do you know Kemosobe! (I hope that is spelled right as I am a great admirer of the Lone Ranger and Tonto) The world knows what was said and done and now A&E will know...heh.
Newt was my choice for president. I was shocked when McCain of all people beat him out in the election. I know he’s had a bad rep in the past (admittedly I don’t know what it’s all about) but after hearing him debate I was sure he would’ve been the best candidate to lead the country, especially at this point in time.
Well, this guy’s doing an excellent job standing up for his religion, & educating a lot of people about what G-d thinks of homosexual relations. Did he say he didn’t judge people in the article, or as explanation?
