Proposed Ban on Religious Garb Introduced in Quebec Parliament

Bernard Drainville, Quebec’s Minister Responsible for Democratic Institutions and Active Citizenship, has formally introduced controversial legislation that would prevent “personnel members of public bodies” from wearing “objects such as headgear, clothing, jewelry or other adornments which, by their conspicuous nature, overtly indicate a religious affiliation,” according to the text of the proposed legislation.

“Public bodies,” according to the measure, include government agencies, school boards, “health and social services agencies,” and “budget-funded bodies.”

Public hearings will begin in January, CBC News reported.

Informally called the “charter of values,” the legislation is entitled the “Charter affirming the values of secularism and the religious neutrality of the state, as well as the equality of men and women, and the framing of accommodation requests.”

So, how does a Star of David, a crucifix, a Hindi ornamental sword or a Buddhist necklace oppresses, interfere with, or intimidate someone else?

But, a Burka is a complete covering of a person, which is intended to remove any way of identifying that person. You do not know if they are armed, wearing a bomb belt, or are a peaceful person.

I have never met a Hindi, who made me feel intimidated, or fearful. I have never met a Buddhist, Jew or fellow Christian who felt it his duty to enslave or threaten me. These are rational, sane and valuable members of society.

I wish I could say the same thing about the VAST MAJORITY of Muslims.

Attempt to create a state religion be it ‘secular humanism’, ‘ atheism ‘, or whatever they want to call it

“Charter affirming the values of secularism”

This is effectively a STATE RELIGION. It is the imposition of a value set and worldview onto the people by force.

What are the values of secularism? The answer is of course whatever the central planners want.

Will it apply to the headchoppers?

Up Ontario way just across from the delightful "across the river" Michigan myself, I have the real story.

The way Quebec tries to stem the tide of the new cultures brought by Islamic immigrants is to appear non discriminatory. They are after the burka. One big horror story from that province is of an honour killing. Three young women broke away from the strict tenets of Islam and were with their step-mother. The father and his son followed their vehicle and bashed it into the Rideau Canal. They died.

The Quebec authorities are trying to appear non-discriminatory. Alas, the other religions may be collateral damage. The howls of outrage from the usual suspects, had they just picked on Islam would be heard. This plus legal action.

Christianity an easy target in Canada. Islam is not.
