Texas' Largest Presbyterian Church (USA) Congregation Votes to Leave Denomination

The largest Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation in Texas has voted to leave the mainline denomination over theological differences.

Highland Park Presbyterian Church of Dallas, which has approximately 4,000 members, overwhelmingly approved a resolution recently that would involve the congregation seeking dismissal from PC (USA).

Eighty-nine percent of the members present at the Congregational and Corporate Meeting held at the church voted in favor of leaving PC (USA).

Last month, Highland Park Presbyterian leadership unanimously approved a resolution to begin the process of dismissal from PC (USA).

The Session recommended dismissal from the mainline denomination and membership into the newer more conservative body known as the Evangelical Covenant Order (ECO) of Presbyterians.

Monty Montgomery, elder and co-moderator of the Session-Appointed Discernment Coordinating Committee at HPPC, told The Christian Post that the process of joining ECO has already begun.

While I'm certainly sympathetic to the church which has Billy Graham's brother-in-law by Nelson Bell II as one of its teaching elders(and if memory serves me correctly, I thought his father Nelson Bell I was also one of the pastors there at one time), why didn't they leave over 20 years ago and join the PCA? Many Bible believing Presbyterians did and founded Park Cities Presbyterian in Dallas.

Great question.

I looked at the ECO website, can’t figure out what they are all about. Any insights?

"HOOEY"--what a WONderful word, so fitting and appropriate.
Not far from my neighborhood some lesbians have a church, painted purple, and call it "HerChurch."
They used to have pews but so few people showed up that they took down the pews and put in folding chairs. So when six people show up on Sunday morning, it's EASY to accommodate the congregation. THEY are full of hooey, if you ask me. DisGUSTing.

Better late than never. Every loser I meet from the PCUSA is essentially a universalist of some kind who favors gay marriage. I’ve literally never met a good one.

At least the lesbian church is honest, unlike the PCUSA.

I suppose you might have a point.
Since there is NO SUCH thing as a "gay" gene, homosexuals CHOOSE their lifestyle. I can't get over the abnormality of that choice. Call me old-fashioned. But I do understand your point.

What’s the point in having churches if values are no longer an issue?

Our neighbors across the street were Episcopalians. There were six children and one of the daughters was my age. She and I were best friends.

The ONLY time I envied her was when she got to dress up in a long ball gown for her "RAINBOW GIRLS" events.

TOMORROW BELONGS TO ME
Remember that song from the movie "CABARET"? Great movie, but scary. It was well done in showing how/why Germany, backed into a corner, did what it did.

I had a guide in Austria once who thought it was amusing that MOST people thought Hitler was German. I wasn't amused at all.

There is NOTHING "gay" about homosexuality. It is inherently wrong and aberrant. God made Adam and EVE, not Adam and STEVE.

see what "denominations" can do??? anything they want..there are no more rules as to what is and what is not Christianity....

Twenty years ago, we were new in town and scouting out churches. We visited one of the PCUSA churches. The Lord's Prayer included "Our Father and Mother in heaven".

well, scratch that one from the list.

Doctrinal statement includes the PCUSA's "Book of Confessions", not straight up Westminster Standards.

The way I read it is, PCUSA, but they drew the line at the gay thing. Most of the real conservatives left long ago. The PCUSA is getting filtered over and over. Eventually there will be no one left who sees any need to leave.

Rainbow Girls are an organization for young girls that is sponsored by the Masonic and Eastern Star organizations. I was one when I was a teenager and I can assure you that it has nothing whatsoever to do with the gay-lesbian agenda. It is actually more closely related to Christianity. They try to teach the girls high moral values, as well as poise and grace. The girls do get to dress up in formal gowns for special events.

thats considered “mainline”....here in CULT ravaged Marin County CA..

The church I attend is tiny...and out of the way...but its theology....is true and clear.

I live within a five minute walk of a large Presbyterian Church...maybe a minute form a large Catholic Church..and ten minutes by bike from the nearest Episcopal Church they’re all off center,

May I ask is what type of a church it is(e.g., a Bible church, PCA, LCMS or something else?)
