Vatican Official: Pelosi Shouldn’t Receive Communion
The Corner ^ | September 26, 2013 | Andrew Johnson

Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke said that Nancy Pelosi should be denied communion because her support of abortion is in conflict of her Catholic faith. He took particular issue with the minority leader’s refusal to comment on abortionist and murderer Kermit Gosnell because she said “as a practicing and respectful Catholic, this is sacred ground” for her.

A cardinal commenting that nazi pelosi shouldn't receive communion is NOT ... you cannot receive communion.

IOW ... just words

Deny her communion, but recommend exorcism.

If he is the former Archbishop of St. Louis, Cardinal Burke, who has a very major Vatican post now, he could send a directive to the bishops in the USA telling them to excommunicate Rep. Pelosi. Plus besides he does have the “ear” of Pope Francis.

A biblical church would impose severe sanctions against any priest or Parrish which violates this decision, including excommunication.

But you’re right, it’s just a strongly worded suggestion at this point.

On a somewhat related topic, I frequently see people claim that Adolph Hitler was a Catholic and that the Church never excommunicated him because they felt nothing he did was against Catholicism. I know Hitler was a baptized Catholic, and I assume that he was not a practicing Catholic as an adult. (Does anyone know otherwise?) As for the excommunication issue, my impression is that the Church normally does not formally excommunicate someone unless they are a member of the clergy teaching false doctrine or behaving in a scandalous manner. Excommunication of a lay person would be rare, and then only if the person was claiming to be an orthodox Catholic. Most people who leave the Church do so quietly and the Church never bothers with the formality of excommunication. Does anyone have any information on this topic?

I thought that Cardinal Burke was the head of Vatican version of the judicial side, in other words, its version of a “CJ” or chief justice?

Interesting. Do you know who does, or is it not down anymore?

If he were to do that could the Democrats claim that the church was interjecting itself into politics by punishing Pelosi and then go after their tax exempt status?

All indications are Nancy Pelosi could not care less. She’s subject to no authority other than her own imagined powers.

Thing is, the Dems would have NO SAY in what would be considered an internal Church issue.

Burke's been saying this for years. Let me know when something actually happens.

"Should not" or "Shall not"? C'mon, Cardinal, take a stand.
