I would expect im such a scenario that most Americans would
do a lot more than merely protest.

Murdering babaies is a clear moral issue. Relaxing border laws or ignoring the same is a political, not a moral issue.

Uh, right - as individuals. Churches shouldn’t get involved in political issues.

This isn’t Germany.
It is my impression that very few priests are going along with the suggestions from bishops to preach about amnesty and other lefty causes. The younger the priest, the less likely he is to be a Democrat.
Have you looked for a Mass celebrated according to the 1962 Missal? You won’t hear any lefty preaching there.
