Progressive faith leader Jim Wallis joined in on issuing commentary in the wake of the George Zimmerman acquittal. In a Huffington Post blog piece entitled, “Lament From a White Father,” he alleged that, had shooting victim Trayvon Martin been white, he would still be alive today. Wallis also pleaded with Caucasians — and parents, in particular — to “listen, to learn, and to speak out” about the tragic death.
Race, he contended, was at the center of the incident from the start.
“If my white 14-year-old son Luke had walked out that same night, in that same neighborhood, just to get a snack, he would have come back to his dad unharmed — and would still be with me and Joy today,” Wallis wrote. “Everyone, being honest with ourselves, knows that is true.”
The Sojourners leader went on to call it “a political, legal and moral mistake” not to ensure that the trial focused upon race, as he believes that this was the root cause that inevitably led to Martin’s death. In fact, Wallis overtly accused Zimmerman of having racially profiled the 17-year-old victim.
“[Martin Luther] King’s dream failed on February 26, 2012, in Sanford, Fla., when George Zimmerman decided to follow Trayvon Martin because of the color of his skin,” he added. “This led to a confrontation in which a child was killed by an adult who got away with it, because of the way Florida laws were written and interpreted.”
Wallis went on to say that “racial profiling is a sin in the eyes of God” and he described the “systematic injustice” that he believes is at play in American society — a system that he contended puts African Americans at a disadvantage. He described the case as providing a window into “an utterly segregated society.”
While Wallis called for the acceptance of the verdict, the faith leader also said that the case’s meaning must be explored, particular when it comes to its societal impact.

I'm guessing that Jim Wallis has decided to go into competition with Al Sharpton for top race-baiter.
Guess it depends on which god you happen to be worshiping that day? Every time you go through an airport you worship the god of tolerance.

White liberals are having such a good time grandstanding over this. Nothing gives a white liberal a chance to stand up and start talking about himself, as when a black kid with THC in his system gets shot assaulting a Hispanic guy for calling the police.

Some one needs to tell this putz had Travon been white and the same set of cirumstances occured, he’d be just as dead.

It’s all racism and profiling... Until you actually get robbed. Then it’s PTSD.
That could well be the case. White kids generally are much less prone to resort to violence when they feel they have been dissed.
Somehow, I don't think Wallis gets that point - that Martin, from his on-line comments, had embraced thug culture, and felt a violent response to being followed by Zimmerman was somehow justified.
And apparently a lot of liberals feel the same way as well.

Replay the scenario with Luke cold cocking a stranger in the dark, getting on top of him and beating him. Consider Luke informing the man he was beating that he was going to kill him.
Guess what? Your white son would be as dead as Trayvon Martin. Deal with it.
“Profiling” is nothing more than using the God given skills of cognition to deduce patterns in our environment, which is the most basic aspect of human intelligence.
I think Zimmerman did profile Trayvon Martin. Trayvon was the only person Zimmerman saw creeping around in the neighborhood shadows that night. In the dark, raining, hood up; I seriously doubt he could even tell he was black when he saw him. In fact, he said so on the 911 call: “He looks black.” Zimmerman called 911 *before* he knew Trayvon was black. He did not know for certain until Trayvon was walking toward him: “He’s got his hand in his waistband and he is a black male.”
If I would have seen the hand in the waistband, I would be thinking he was armed.
Isn’t accusing Zimmerman of racial profiling itself a form of profiling? (yes)
Yesterday:
Be honest with YOURSELF, Jim. Your son would have come back to you unharmed because he would have gone directly home insterad of loitering around in the rain, then approaching GZ ready to fight. Trayvon would have been unharmed if he'd done the same....gone drectly home.
How about this scenario -
Walking in the zoo with your family.
You see a bunch of AA males all wearing white T-shirts coming in, flashing gang signs, etc.
You can
a) Ignore your warning bells (profiling) and stay at the zoo, hoping there’s nothing going on.
b) “Profile” and consider that it’s a good time to go swimming or get ice cream somewhere outside of the zoo...
