Cardinals GM Orders Cross Honoring Musial To Be Removed From Mound
CBS St. Louis ^ | July 8, 2013 | none

The St. Louis Cardinals general manager ordered a cross carved into the pitcher’s mound to be removed following a fan complaining about the religious symbol to local newspapers.

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak asked the grounds crew to remove the cross and not to put the religious symbol on the mound again after learning of the practice from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

“It’s not just club policy to be putting religious symbols on the playing field or throughout the ballpark,” Mozeliak told the Post-Dispatch. “I didn’t ask for the reason behind it. I just asked for it to stop.”

Sad that he feels the need to do this. I hope the pitchers dig their own cross into the dirt. I would not be surprised to see lots of crosses hanging from the rafters at the stadium for the next home game. Maybe they should take the "St. Louis" out of the team's name, too, since it glorifies a Christian saint. Call them the Rivertown Cardinals.

Why not rename the team the PC Cardinals?

The old St. Louis Browns actually used a picture of St. Louis himself as a logo for some time.

Mozeliak has just seen to it that God will remain a Pirates fan for the remainder of this season.

He should call the the Rivertown Browns because the history page says the original reference to Cardinals is a religious one as the bird came around 34 years later.

Wonder if they remove it will a curse will be cast upon the birds on the bat. Hell, the cubs are still suffering a goat curse 68 years later.

They wouldn’t do this is it was an Islamic crescent. Fear is a great motivator and deterrent. The GM needs to see a push back against this decision.

May this bow to political correctness do the same to the St. Louis Cardinals that trading Babe Ruth did to the Red Sox.

"A fan"? One person complained and they scramble to remove the "offending" item?

When will people realize that being "offended" is going to destroy freedom of speech? Maybe when we all, everyone of us, get offended at the tiniest, stupidest things we can possibly think of, maybe then people will hang up their obamaphones and say, "enough is enough!".

Maybe, but probably only when someone gets "offended" at something the low info voter/person holds dear.

Christapobia. How else to explain this reaction to a single fan. The complainer wasn’t even a likely fan.

And every batter should cross himself before he enters the batter's box. Oh wait, most of them already do.

The Godless fascists who are trying to regulate Christ out of the public square are only going to make the reaction against their tyranny stronger. The specific campaign against Catholic charities, education, and conscience is likewise eliciting a level of sympathy and cooperation among Christians of all stripes that would probably have struck our ancestors as unthinkable.

So let them sow the wind. We know what they will reap.

Saint Louis - Roman Catholic term and historical figure
Cardinals - Roman Catholic clerical office
John Mozeliak - St. Louis Cardinals GM
John - best friend of Christ
Mozeliak - Moze = Moshe = drawn from water = Jewish
guy who led the Hebrews out of Egypt

What a bunch of garbage. I s’pose the team will hurl headfirst into celebrating SODOMY, though, when ordered to by the Commish.

Well y’know what? I’m offended by that athiest being offended. I demand you remove him from the stadium for the rest of the season.

They should also re-name the team since “cardinals” could easily be mistaken for the Catholic clergy. They should also stop taking all that money with “In God We Trust” written on it.

Probably the same guy with the tinfoil ballcap who spends five innings wandering around pestering all the beer vendors for a Falstaff.
