It's the heart versus the Bible
Jewish World Review ^ | 3-16-04 | Dennis Prager

Posted on 06/25/2013 5:41:36 PM PDT by ReformationFan

I recently interviewed a 26-year-old Swedish student about her views on life. I asked her if she believed in G-d or in any religion. "No, that's silly," she replied. "Then how do you know what is right and wrong?" I asked. "My heart tells me," she responded. In a nutshell, that's the major reason for the great divide within America and between America and much of Europe. The majority of people use their heart — stirred by their eyes — to determine what is right and wrong. A minority uses their mind and/or the Bible to make that determination. Pick almost any issue and these opposing ways of determining right and wrong become apparent. Here are three examples.

“The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

DP is my favorite. If I ever call his show I will thank him for talking to us every day. (To me it’s teaching.)

I understand that the phrase “desperately wicked” can be accurately translated “incurably wicked” and leads to the fact that a human heart cannot be cured but a new heart must be given by being born again i.e. the encounter with Nicodemus.

Yet Prager himself rejects Jesus.

The heart is a wonderful device to express God’s work of sanctification within our soul.

The heart pumps blood. As referenced in Scripture, it is a compartment of our soul used to output thinking. The mind is the input, recall, and memory storage device in our soul.

Without God the Holy Spirit working in our human spirit, making the Word of God spiritually known to our mind, then processing it to sanctify our mind, we don’t have the sanctified resources to pump out sanctified work by Divine standards.

Without Christ, we simply are performing human good works, acking in Divine righteousness, which at best is good for nothingness, and at worse a form of evil.

I won a dollar bet from him years ago (can’t remember the exact discussion) on his radio show and he sent it to me. I just went looking for it but I think I spent it.

When people say their heart tells them what is right or wrong they are promoting moral relativism. This assumes that the only absolute rule is that there are no absolute rules. It also assumes that nobody should impose his morality on anyone else. It is impossible to argue with them about anything because everyone creates his own truth, and there are as many truths as there are people. I my FEEL that pederasty is wrong, but you may FEEL that pederasty is right. You cannot argue with feelings.

Exactly. It’s the “if it feels good, do it” credo.

Hebrews 8
8
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

9
not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers, in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.

10
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord;I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God,and they shall be to me a people:

11
and they shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

12
I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

Only the people who have Jesus in their hearts will have the laws of God in their hearts.

A 26 year old may talk about the heart but not knowing what they are really talking about, they might say anything, give them time and they either will or won,t, many will be called but few chosen.

But i can see the point of the thread and it is true.

I immediately thought of that Scripture. Thank you for referring to it here.
