Baptists Plan Exodus from Boy Scouts
CNN ^ | 5/31/13 | Daniel Burke

(CNN) – For Southern Baptist pastor Tim Reed, it was Scripture versus the Scouts.

“God’s word explicitly says homosexuality is a choice, a sin,” said Reed, pastor of First Baptist Church of Gravel Ridge in Jacksonville, Arkansas.

So when the Boy Scouts of America voted to lift its ban on openly gay youths on May 24, Reed said the church had no choice but to cut its charter with Troop 542.

“It’s not a hate thing here,” Reed told CNN affiliate Fox 16. “It’s a moral stance we must take as a Southern Baptist church.”

Southern Baptist leaders say Reed is not alone.

Baptist churches sponsor nearly 4,000 Scout units representing more than 100,000 youths, according to the Boy Scouts of America.

That number could drop precipitously.

The Southern Baptist Convention, the country’s largest Protestant denomination, will soon urge its 45,000 congregations and 16 million members to cut ties with the Scouts, according to church leaders.

The denomination will vote on nonbinding but influential resolutions during a convention June 11-12 in Houston.

“There’s a 100% chance that there will be a resolution about disaffiliation at the convention,” said Richard Land, the longtime head of the Southern Baptists’ Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, “and a 100% chance that 99% of people will vote for it.”

“Southern Baptists are going to be leaving the Boy Scouts en masse,” Land continued.

If you quit, you let them win.

This is what Obama and the secularists want.

They want all of the foundation forming, values building organizations destroyed.

It’s the same tactic being used to drive chaplains from the military.

Will the BSA remove the words “God” and “morally straight” from the oath? Or will they keep them and require “false witness” to be a member?

If you don’t quit you sponsor homosexuals

Catch 22.

The idiots who voted to allow Homosexual kids in the Scouts were afraid of losing the sponsorship of companies who wish to sponsor Homosexual sex. Such as United Fund. They voted for the money and doomed the Scouts.

Now they have neither. Instead of brains those who voted for this mess have fecal material in their heads.

I believe you are right. The Evil are experts at putting the Good in a no-win bind.

The church isn't quitting the Boy Scouts; the Boy Scouts are quitting the church.

Good. BSA is a private organization that can make its own decisions over who joins. Same for the Baptists and the Catholics.

The Scouts have abandoned their foundational principles. To “stay” with them, and to contribute to their mission, would mean we'd have to abandon ours.

Millions of American parents brought their sons to BSA because we believed in the values BSA once represented. Through the use of deceitful tactics and a “survey” that was written to function as what they would call a “push poll” in politics, BSA has cast aside those core values. We didn't quit the scouts. The scouts quit us.

BTW, this is just the “tip of the iceberg.” The scouts are no more than “dead man walking” right now. It's only a matter of time. They drank the hemlock of political correctness, and become a different organization than they were previously. There's nothing anyone can do to save them now.

After the Episcopal Church embraced political correctness the number of children registered for their Sunday School programs across the country dropped from nearly 900,000 to less than 300,000. And the Episcopal Church doesn't send many small groups camping in remote locations for dozens of days per year. BSA, themselves, have estimate that they'll lose at least 400,000 members due to this decision. When reality finally hits I suspect they'll see a loss of well over 1Million members, within five years.

They have already won. Staying doesn't mean standing up for our values, it means conceding to theirs. Straight boys and religious scoutmasters and sponsors are going to be lightning rods for the perverts. The first time a "gay" kid reports that his imagined sexual orientation is not validated by his troop or scoutmaster there will be civil rights lawyers and federal investigators coming out of the woodwork. No one should subject their children-or their church-to that.

The BSA has mortally wounded itself. Let it wither away and die the death it has chosen.

Southern Baptists said they are preparing for a surge of interest in the Royal Ambassadors at their upcoming convention in Houston.

I think that any religious denomination that believes their heavily religious oriented youth programs will replace the Boy Scouts as a popular organization to join will be very disappointed. The RAs and other similar organizations have existed for years and they won't suddenly appeal to youths they didn't appeal to before.

If a real alternative to the BSA is desired, they'd better band together and form a new organization similar to BSA that retains the traditional values of the BSA.

"If you quit, you let them win"

The "exodus" out of Sodom and Gemorah is a good thing, in which all God loving/fearing people should do.

Besides, I've read some stories about those leaving the gay scouts will form a new "boy scouts". The stories I've read, these people were quite upset they felt FORCED to leave what was once a great institution for little boys and their dads and great male role models.

They seemed more saddened than angry about the gay scouts decision.

Of course you don't. Instead, you create something new that is responsive to Biblical principles, as the Scouts used to be.

I speak here as a former Scout, local council executive officer and Eagle dad. Thankfully, my son earned his award before the national organization accepted perversion.

Right now, I wouldn't recommend Scouting to a boy. We didn't allow our daughter to join the Girl Scouts for the same reason. Let's create youth organizations that truly honor God instead of simply offering lip service.

+1

The left will not rest until they rule our consciences, until they think for us, judge for us and choose for us. Leaving boys in the BSA just furthers their cause. A fire cannot burn without fuel. Starve it.

I disagree. The BSA was a disgrace...corporate whores as distant from scouting as Susan Komen was from funding cancer research. The basis of BSA was in the UK and it was BIBLICALLY-based and focused on the kids, not Fortune 500 sponsorships.

The BSA must be eviscerated and a NEW scout organization rapidly take its place based on biblical values and not beholden to the almighty dollar - and thus homosexual pressure groups.

Any similar group that seeks tax exempt status will be charged with discrimination. The only groups that will survive are religious based groups because of the First Amendment.
