Skip to comments.Should a Sarah Palin adviser speak for America's Catholic bishops? (Here we go!)

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the head of the U.S. Catholic Bishops' conference, just hired conservative activist Kim Daniels as his spokeswoman.
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) announced on Monday that it has hired Kim Daniels as spokeswoman for the USCCB president, currently Cardinal Timothy Dolan, archbishop of New York. Daniels, the USCCB announcement explains, is "an attorney whose practice has focused on religious liberty matters," and she "brings to the USCCB her experience as director of Catholic Voices USA, an organization of lay Catholics that works to bring the positive message of the Church across a broad range of issues to the public square."
The bishops left a few things off her résumé, says Grant Gallicho at Commonweal. Notably, the announcement "does not mention two of Daniels's previous employers: Sarah Palin and the Thomas More Law Center," a conservative legal organization at which Daniels fought for the right of pharmacists to refuse to dispense the morning-after pill. She spent nine years, from 2000 to 2009, at the Thomas More Law Center, established in 1998 by its president, Richard Thompson. Thompson and his center increasingly tend to "make news by making provocative comments about Islam."
The more eyebrow-raising job is Daniels' work as a paid adviser to Palin and her political group, SarahPAC. Daniels signed up to work with Palin after doing some legal work for John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign, at a time when "the former Alaska governor tried to remodel herself" after McCain's loss, says David Gibson at Religion News Service. Daniels was described as "Palin's personal domestic policy czar," and that association leaves an open question for the bishops about "whether Daniels will deflect controversies or become a lightning rod herself," says Gibson.....

The spokesman is not Gov Palin but her sometimes adviser, so what’s the issue.
Hahaha, you could also say that for some freepers as well :)
Someone should. They havent said a lot for a while on their own...unless it was pro left.
Here’s a better question: Should a liberal pin head named “Peter” be allowed anywhere near a word processor?
If I remember correctly Ms. Daniels has done a lot of work for Catholic Orgs. over the years.
Smear Sarah? Check.
Smear Todd? Check.
Smear Bristol? Check.
Smear Willow? Check.
Smear Trig? Check.
Smear anybody she has endorsed? Check.
Smear anybody who ever worked for her? Check.
Progs are so predictable. They tell us she’s nothing to them.
The left is so damn predicable..if you want to make a liberal have a massive heart attack just go up behind him and instead of say BOO just say SARAH PALIN..either that or say CONSTITUTION..either way it makes their ears bleed
The woman worked for Palin for a short period in 2008. They make her sound like the power behind the throne.
I wonder if this writer is as worried about convicted domestic terrorists teaching college in America.
There’s no please these people. They go on for decades whining that a bunch of celibate ol’ men don’t know nuttin’ about nuttin’, so they bring in a married woman to help shape the message, and that’s no good because she pals around with another married woman named Sarah Palin. Sheesh!
I’m not the person who hired this spokesperson. I can’t judge because I don’t know the job descriptio and I am not aware of the individual’s qualifications.
Our Bishops are so crappy at speaking for themselves and the Catholic Church that just about Freepin’ anyone could do better. I have some kids I’d volunteer, in my 3rd grade class!!!
Sarah Palin has a Catholic advisor probably because she was baptised as a Catholic and would probably still be a Catholic if her father had not left the faith when she was a little girl. She’s pro-life, with no exceptions, exactly like the Catholic Church, and her other social beliefs line up exactly with the Catholic Church.
Gov Palin did not leave the faith, she is a Born Again Christian, she has left nothing.
She was baptised as a Catholic, and later hoodwinked by an Elmer Gantry type into believing she had to be “born again”.
Hopefully one day she’ll go back to confession and start attending Mass again. She is a lapsed Catholic. She’s a smart woman so there’s a great possibility she’ll return to the fullness of the Christian faith.
If they hired her to, why the heck not? What business is it of anyone outside of the organization that chose her?
