May he rest in peace.

The Berean Call ministry is an excellent resource for Truth. Mr. Hunt was a truth-teller and a superb Christian scholar.

The prohibition of idolatry is one of the 10 commandments and was reiterated by Christ and the apostles in the New Testament.

In the Old Testament, God commissioned the images of a brass serpent as well as some ornamental images in the temple. Yet the brass serpent had to be destroyed when the people made an idol out of it. Likewise, Paul warned in Romans of the danger of Jewish observers committing sacrilege in their temple worship due to these elements. And that temple was also destroyed as Christ prophesied when the disciples were admiring its beauty.

When the disciples bowed the knee to Christ and called Him God, He did not rebuke them because that is exactly Who He is. He is the only human being Who can rightfully receive worship because He is fully God, and no other human being living or dead has any right to receive worship because they are no gods.

On the other hand when people merely marveled at the miracles of Peter and John, Peter challenged the onlookers to give glory to God not them.

When Paul and Barnabas were treated as gods by the people of Lystra after Paul healed a criple man, the apostles shouted and tore their clothes and ran to them begging they would not sacrifice to them.

When Herod received praise as a god for his oratory skills he was immediately killed by God.

When John was tempted to bow to the angel who spoke to him in the book of Revelation, the angel forbade him and directed his honors to Christ, telling him to worship God.

No attempt to redefine these acts will change what the Bible calls them - idolatry. When someone makes an image and bows or kneels to it, prays toward it, offers incense, food, flowers etc. to it; that person commits idolatry... even if it is supposed to represent the true God of heaven. He said not to do this very explicitly.

When you, other Catholics, and even the pope himself refuse to obey ths simple, plain command, it is not my opinion being disregarded, or some private interpretation, or personal preference or human tradition; it is a rebellion against the plain teaching and commands of God Himself.

And the real Mary, not the evil spirits who might impersonate her, would weep if she were aware of the horrific abomominations being done in her name. No, common sense does not call this abomination an “honor”. It is a dishonor to Mary and to God.

To advocate something that is or can lead to idolatry is not obeying the biblical command to flee idolatry. The Bible nowhere commands to make images of God, saints, Mary or anyone else or to bow or pray toward them.

Idolatrers will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Thank you for posting this. When I was a young Christian, I was introduced to Dave Hunt’s books, I can’t remember when. But his love for the truth of God’s Word set me on the path that gave me the love for the truth of God’s Word. I met him in Maryland on one of his lectures at a church. I wanted to meet him badly and I probably was the only one there who had him autograph several books of his that I bought!

Unfortunately, I stopped listening to him when he started preaching Once Saved Always Saved. He taught me to search the Scriptures and that teaching I could not, in all my searching of the Scriptures, reconcile with the Word of God.

Despite that, I still had great respect for him. I still do.

RIP, Mr. Hunt.

His video A Woman Rides the Beast is a favorite among those who are witnessing to Catholics, a group for whom Dave had a deep love and sorrow, desiring to see them come to the knowledge of the truth.

Mr. Hunt was not a "bigot." It's sad to see people who are so full of hatred come here and slander a newly-deceased, dear Christian.

"Unfortunately, I stopped listening to him when he started preaching Once Saved Always Saved. He taught me to search the Scriptures and that teaching I could not, in all my searching of the Scriptures, reconcile with the Word of God."

Then you need to keep searching, and step back and look at the greater context. You should be able to say like Paul, "Neither life nor death nor.... shall separate us from the love of God. For I know whom I have believed and He is able to keep that which I've committed unto Him against that day."

Paul's faith wasn't in Paul's ability to keep faith, or Paul's works. Paul's faith was in God's ability. When you understand that, you'll be able to take the verses that indicate once saved always saved at face value. And you'll be able to see the real context of the verses that would seem to contradict that view.

An honest seeker would do well to consider Dave Hunt's words.

An honest denominationalist would do well to consider Dave Hunt's teachings.

An honest Christian will do well to find comfort in words that answer questions that are unasked because they tend to cause trouble for one that wants no trouble.

Wise men still seek the Lord and the truth, no matter the consequences.

Anti-Catholic folks are obviously more than happy to help the government divide and conquer Christians just as long as they get another chance to return to their vomit.

I thought it was really funny to see the posts in this thread right after an article about the government listing both Evangeilcals and Catholics as, basically, potential threats to the State. It's clear the government isn't going to have any problem finding people to point out the Catholics in their neighborhoods.

Yes, they came out in full viciousness night before last when I posted Dave Hunt’s “Catholicism—Christian? or Cultic?” piece, from the Berean Call’s April edition. I made the mistake of calling it a “caucus” thread. The thread ended up being pulled, but not before a full-frontal assault by people who cannot stand their religion to be criticized, no matter how true the analysis may be. The Religion Moderator told me if I had just posted it as an open discussion, it would have been fine to post.

Thus Rashputin sayeth: Anti-Catholic folks are obviously more than happy to help the government divide and conquer Christians just as long as they get another chance to return to their vomit.

Given all the protestants that Rome has had disposed of over the centuries, your indignation rings hollow. Interesting to me is the insistance that "Christian Unity" (a Biblical impossibility btw) is always defined by those joining with Rome, not Rome changing her ways.

But have a nice day regardless.

He was an anti-Catholic bigot

Hunt was not anti Catholic, he had nothing against those who follow Catholicism.

He spent part of his life exposing un-Biblical and extra-Biblical areas of Catholicism to the betterment of Christianity.

Nice job throwing hate into the mix when someone who disagrees with your belief system dies.

One of the areas he exposed is purgatory, where Jesus' proclaimation of "It is finished" is ignored,

The latter council described purgatory as a place where the souls of the dead make expiation "in the next life through fire and torments or purifying punishments." According to Vatican II, "in purgatory the souls of those ‘who died in the charity of God and truly repentant, but who had not made satisfaction with adequate penance for their sins and omissions’ are cleansed after death with punishments designed to purge away their debt." The Catechism of the Catholic Church describes purgatory as place of "cleansing fire."[1031]
Ignored as well is Peter's proclamation "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God..."...1 Peter Chapter 3:18a

Notice it does not say "bring us to purgatory to get extra punishment for our sins even though Jesus died for them...once and for all"

Rest in Peace, Dave Hunt and thank you for all you did to correct errors in many areas.
