Salvation can only come through Jesus Christ, not through tarot readers and fortune tellers, Pope Francis has said.
Preaching at morning Mass at the Domus Sanctae Marthae in Rome today, Pope Francis said: "In order to solve their problems many people resort to fortune tellers and tarot cards. But only Jesus saves, and we must bear witness to this! He is the only one."
"Mary always leads us to Jesus, as she did at Cana when she said: 'Do whatever he tells you'. Let us trust in the name of Jesus, let us invoke the name of Jesus, and let the Holy Spirit push us to say this prayer trusting in the name of Jesus...it will do us all good....in this world that offers us so many saviours, it is only the name of Jesus that saves."

Heck, it’s highly popular in North America, too. I lived in a town in Northern California that must have supported half of India as “palm readers.” (A lot of the palmists and tarot card readers were Indians - or gypsies.) The red-neon outlined hand was about the most common sign in town.
I’ll never figure it out. People won’t go to church and don’t accept religious faith, but then they’ll go to some shady dive and spend a bundle on these “fortune tellers” and act as if that’s somehow perfectly reasonable.

Maybe you don’t think prayer and contemplation are good things, but I wouldn’t foist that on other Christians.

Yes, praying is dangerous for your soul. A good Christian never does anything as immoral as praying. Especially that dangerous Lord’s Prayer.
To approach people about fortune telling, it helps to know what is called “the fortune teller’s paradox”. That, is, that people do not go to a fortune teller to have their future divined, but in the odd hope that the fortune teller can somehow *change* their future.
So for persons of faith, it helps to change their approach somewhat, to people who muck around with astrology, fortune telling and the like. Instead of pointing out the blindingly obvious that it doesn’t work, approach them from the point of view of helping someone to change their life for the better. This is something that faith *can* do, that fortune tellers cannot.
In short, they want personal change, so offer them personal change. Not directly from you, but to guide them to find and make change, with some heavenly help, in themselves.

In the Catholic Church we do have what we call “pious devotions”. They are forms of prayer that inspire us to meditate on the life of Jesus Christ. No one is required to use these prayers. They are tools that can strengthen our love of the Holy Trinity or specifically Jesus.
During Lent, our attention is on the impending death of the Lord, Jesus. Thus on Good Friday evening at Tenabrae we sing, “Oh, crucified Messiah, Oh, crucified Redeemer, Son of God Most Holy, Crucifed for us.”
Not buying it. I used to be a very good Tarot card reader, with the entire deck and its symbolism completely committed to memory (and a collection of 50 or so historic decks). I gave it up when I converted.
It attracts the wrong kind of supernatural interest, if you know what I mean. Not as badly as Ouija boards which scare the fire out of me, but bad enough.
