Students Try to Banish Catholic Chaplain From Campus for Anti-Gay Stance
The Daily Caller via Yahoo News ^ | 4/4/13

Posted on 04/04/2013 6:39:18 AM PDT by marshmallow

Two gay seniors at George Washington University say they feel alienated because the chaplain at George Washington’s Newman Center rejects homosexuality, and they aren’t going to take it anymore.

The seniors, Damian Legacy and Blake Bergen, have announced a coordinated campaign to rid the campus of the Roman Catholic priest, reports The GW Hatchet, the school’s independent student newspaper.

They also assert that 12 or more students have quit the Newman Center in recent years because they can’t tolerate Father Greg Shaffer’s ardent anti-gay and, for the record, anti-abortion — beliefs.

Shaffer has worked for five years at George Washington’s Newman Center. He told the Hatchet that religion and unrestricted speech “play a vital role at a diverse university like GW.”

Legacy and Bergen say they are primarily upset about the counseling Shaffer offers. They say he urges students who have homosexual feelings to lead a life of celibacy.

Catholic Church doctrine maintains that homosexual desire isn’t a sin, but acting on that desire is, according to the website Catholic.com.

Aww... because “they feel alienated.” “Alienated” by WHAT???? Is the priest walking around shouting that they’re going to hell?

This is all going too far. Sooner or later....something is gonna happen...either we all just “give up and in” like Portman—or someone says—and MEANS—that is ENOUGH!! WE ARE taking our country BACK!!

We’re losing . . . every day . . . incrementally and sometimes in giant steps . . . but we’re losing.

I don’t see a single thing going our way. As far as I can see, the only thing fighting for us is the NRA . . . just about all the republicans have caved in dramatically in almost every singe thing we’ve been fighting for.

It’s a shame that the NRA is the only organization besides the remnants of the TEA Party that are hanging on to what’s left of our Constitution.

All this going on is an obvious coordinated attack. The gays, the gun-grabbers, the undocumented Democrat proponents are all working together to make us feel hopeless and just give up.

The tide is about to turn on them, big time.

They are on the wrong side of history, they just haven't figured it out yet.

And here you see the essential schizophrenia of the Liberal position.

This nimrod says he wanted to become a priest . . . but then he gets involved in an active homosexual relationship. Then he gets all in a tizzy because the chaplain says that is Wrong.

But - at the same time - the Liberals spend their time blaming the Church for child abuse, when that abuse was overwhelmingly (85%+) perpetrated against pubescent boys. I.e. homosexual "chicken-hawking". The Church has taken action and cleaned out a lot of these guys (who never should have been there in the first place, but some American bishops were infected with the Spirit of the Age in the 1960s and 70s - but that's another long story).

So . . . the Church is trying to get the homosexuals out and keep them out, to avoid homosexual molestation of teenage boys, but the liberals are condemning them for picking on the homosexuals.

And they're doing the exact same thing to the Boy Scouts.

By sticking their fingers in their ears and claiming the molestation of boys has nothing . . . no! absolutely nothing! . . . to do with homosexuality, they are managing to keep two entirely inconsistent ideas in their heads at once.

These people are nuts. Also evil.

“because they can’t tolerate Father Greg Shaffer’s ardent anti-gay and, for the record, anti-abortion — beliefs.” <p. Further proof that, for the left, “tolerance” is a one way street. And their solution to the “alienation” they claim to feel is to alienate the Father from the entire campus.

Perhaps we should make such Christians identify themselves with an emblem. I suggest cross with male and female figures holding hands - a yellow pin, badge or patch. Then we can identify them as we approach them in the streets and walk to the other side. We should teach them a lesson some evening in early November - break the windows of the Newman Center and similar buildings with bricks and hammers and such. Then maybe if they still insist on their views we can load them on trains and move them to central locations out of our proximity.

We thought that diversity was about being tolerant, multi-cultural. But it was an innocent mistake. Diversity meant to be diverse from morality in society. It simply is another name for evil.

Now, why would gays worry about getting pregnant?

I didn't read the article - are the naggers also complaining about the anti-gay views of the Muslim chaplain at George Washington University (if they currently have someone occupying that position - an earlier holder of that position was terminated with extreme prejudice by Obama - see http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/sep/30/awlaki-the-model-moderate-muslim/)?

Catholic doctrine maintains homosexual desire isn't a sin but acting on them is?

Is this so?

How does that square with the Bible's various scripture admonishing "lustful desires," "carnal desires," "lusting after another man's wife committing adultery in one's heart," etc.?

I ask those of you that are versed in Catholic doctrine if in fact this is so, or is it merely journalism malpractice by reporting fantasy as fact?

"Catholic doctrine maintains homosexual desire isn't a sin but acting on them is?
Is this so?"

Catholic teaching is clearly stated in the Catechism:

CCC 2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

CCC 2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

CCC 2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.
