Cardinal Dolan addresses same-sex marriage on Easter Sunday news shows

In two television interviews that were aired nationally on Easter Sunday, Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York addressed the issue of same-sex marriage.

On ABC, he was asked, “What do you say to a gay couple who says, we love God, we love the Church, but we also love each other and we want to raise a family in faith?”

Cardinal Dolan replied, “The first thing I say is, I love you, too. You were made in God’s image and likeness. We want your happiness. And you're entitled in friendship.”

“But we also know that God has told us the way to happiness, in terms of sexual love, that is intended only for a man and a woman in marriage where children can come about naturally,” he added. “We got to do better to see our defense of marriage is not reduced to an attack on gay people. I admit we haven't been too good at that.”

Asked whether the Church was “out of touch,” Cardinal Dolan said that “sometimes by nature, the Church has got to be out of touch with concerns, because we’re always supposed to be thinking of the beyond, the eternal, the changeless.”

“Our major challenge is to continue in a credible way to present the eternal concerns to people in a timeless attractive way,” he continued. “And sometimes there is a disconnect - between what they're going through and what Jesus and his Church is teaching. And that's a challenge for us.”

On CBS, Cardinal Dolan was asked “whether the Church would temper some of its traditionalism to keep pace with recent changes in public opinion on gay rights, abortion, and other issues.”

“I think what we can't tamper with what God has revealed, and you mentioned some of the issues,” he said. The Church, he added, “can try to do better in the way we present them with more credibility and in a more compelling way.”

Why does the media constantly single out the Catholic Church for such interviews? The Evangelical Churches are also against same sex marriage; why not invite on a Baptist minister?

Or why not invite Rev. Leon. Or Wright. I’d like to hear what these radicals have to say about it.

Are you complaining? I thought the Cardinal handled himself quite well; much better than a squishy Protestant like Rick Warren or Joel Osteen would have.

Because, like it or not, the RCC is the standard-bearer for Traditional Marriage (and Life issues, too). The RCC has the greatest organization, finanaces and cultural gravitas. You are the 800-lb gorilla that the Left has to KO before they can declare victory on the issue. Trust me, they will come for Evangelical Protestants as soon as you guys go down, and we won’t stand a chance.

The point is that we can’t be brought down....

Thou art Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against thee...........

In toto, the Church cannot fail and will endure to the end. But individual manifestations of the church can indeed fail. The Church has been driven from many countries. The USA may yet be among them. Time will tell.

Was it Dolan? Not some lower-echelon E.M.?

In either case, I think the attempted excuse would be, there's no knowing whether Biden went to Confession, whether he's repentant, etc. etc.

I don't think that's a good excuse. Biden is giving public scandal, blatant, grandstanding --- I think the canonical term is "manifest" --- scandal, and he is oblifged to make reparation for that with equally public, out-loud repentance and renunciation of his grievous evils.

If I were the E.M. I would not allow Biden or any of the "manifest" pro-aborts and sodomy-enablers, to commit sacrilege against the Most Blessed Eucharist by unrepentant reception. This is not just "posing" on my part. It is required by Canon 915.

What do you say to a gay couple who says, we love God, we love the Church, but we also love each other and we want to raise a family in faith?” I'd tell them that any homosexual activity is a mortal sin that places them on the road to perdition and that they must stop any and all homosexual activity immediately, confess their sins to a Priest, make a firm purpose of amendment never to commit those sins again, perform their penance, and restore Sanctifying Grace to their souls - a grace without which then can not enter Heaven.

If they do not repent of their mortal sins and reform their lives they will go to Hell.
