A study released by the Rasmussen Reports polling firm on Good Friday found that 64% of Americans believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead.

While Americans who believe in the resurrection remain in the majority, that number is down significantly when compared to a Rasmussen Poll that asked the same question, released a year ago.

I agree that religious faith in the US is on the decline, but 13% in one year? That is improbable.

But what surprises me has been the interest in the recent Bible miniseries.

I don’t think the success of the series means much. If it’s entertaining, people will watch it regardless whether they believe. Bible stories are interesting in their own right. To an atheist, it’s just another work of fiction.

Whatever the numbers, the trending in this country is away from the Christian faith.

Between academia, the media, the entertainment industry, the distortion of the Constitution, the failing judicial system and the determined marxist element which has moled its way into every one of our institutions I look for Christians to be holding religious services in torchlit underground tunnels in some future generation.

In parts of the world, Christians are meeting in the homes, just like the first Christians did in the 1st century.

But what surprises me has been the interest in the recent Bible miniseries.

The viewership numbers do not necessarily equate to numbers of believers. The show could have been preaching to the choir, or there could have been some curious Bible newbies turning in. One of my carpool co-riders is Jewish, and he watched it to get a look at what Jesus was about. I only watched episode one. I was disappointed that they left out the homosexual infestation of Sodom & Gomorrah. The men did not demand that Lot release the heavenly visitors so that they could "have sexual relations" with them; rather they appeared simply to want to kill the visitors. I don't know how the rest of the series panned out. It may have given people a false PC perspective on the Bible.

Thirteen percentage points in one year? That’s what I was thinking. Although, to listen to American Atheists (the group) they claim one in 5 people are non-believers in God, and one in three between the ages of 18-30 are non-believers. Who can trust their polls, though? I do believe atheist as a religion is growing though.

The fact that “The Bible” did so well is very telling. People are looking for something. They are looking for answers, for something to believe in. It’s my hope many people came to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior through that program.

Right you are, as seen in some Christian movies that show what the future will be like for Christians. Persecuttion of Christians in this country has already started. We’re called “haters” because we don’t agree with gay marriage. It’s only going to get worse.

This should tell us all about the state of our once beloved country! Woe to them that call evil good and good evil!

Take away the resurrection and the entire Christian religion becomes a sham. How can one claim to be a Christian and not believe that Jesus rose from the dead? If he didn’t then he was a liar and a fraud, and there is no hope for man.

"I don't believe it."

I don't believe it either. I suspect that a larger number failed to answer truthfully for the same reasons St. Peter denied Jesus three times.

Peace be with you.
