Horrific human toll of 'militant atheism' exposed!

"USSR's genocide against Christians largely ignored"

Rwanda: 800,000 dead. Armenia: 1 million. The Holocaust: More than 6 million.

World history is littered with exhibits of the utter brutality of mankind toward his fellow man.

But now a new project under way to recount a history that has not received the attention it deserves, the “militant atheist” campaign in the former Soviet Union on people of faith.

The staggering death toll of Christians alone, estimates the documentary, “Martyred in the USSR,” is 12 million.

One and a half times the population of New York. The equivalent of 20 cities the size of Denver. Six times the number of residents of Paris.

The film examines the “militant state atheism” behind the atrocities of Lenin, Stalin, Khrushchev and others.

“The goal of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics,” the movie makers explain, “was the liquidation of religion and the means to achieve this goal included the destruction of churches, mosques, synagogues, temples, religious monuments, as well as the mass deportation of believers to Siberian forced labor camps, which is commonly referred to as the Gulag.”

Many houses of worship were converted into bath houses, granaries and museums of atheism, they point out, while atheistic and anti-religious carnivals were frequently held to promote the mockery of religion and religious believers.

By the 1960s, a fourth Soviet anti-religious campaign was under way, and half of the Russian Orthodox...........

“Many houses of worship were converted into bath houses”

The irony! I can just imagine bath house Barry taking a dip in a pool of Christian blood. What a POS.

Whenever we see atheists harassing Christians with the statement that religions cause war, remember to say that atheists killed more people over religion in their atheist systems than Christians ever murdered. The glorious atheist state - the Soviet Union - wiped out 200 million innocent people.

The atheist religion is political correctness.

The other thing is their claim that science should decide everything; not involving ethics or morals. Hitler and the Soviets used the “science” of psychiatry to murder and torture millions of their victims.

While atheists can be relatively moral people, operating out of objectively baseless moral reasoning, they have no standard one can hold them to, and can justify removing children of Christian creationists parents as easily as Mao could justify the murderous means to achieving his end.

So can those in religion, except for NT Christianity.

I LOVE hearing someone tell me they are atheist. I tell them virtually all the great mass murderers in history were also atheists, with victims numbering in the hundreds of millions. Gotcha!

"Church property was confiscated, and religion was banned from the school and university system. Students were indoctrinated with atheism and anti-religious teachings."

Confiscation of Church property for noncompliance begins soon and the rest has been in place for decades.

The fact that there aren't riots, or at least regular massive protests, over the HHS mandate and BarryCare tells you all you need to know about the real level of commitment to Christianity in this country.

Only in the sixth era of glasnost and perestroika has the Soviet Union taken a less aggressive stance toward religion, but these concessions are in no way a rejection of the basic tenets of Marxist/Leninist theology, which is still unapologetically atheistic.

While I am sympathetic to your POV, I have never seen the number 200 million anywhere else in regard to soviet atrocities. I think that it is highly important to stick to the truth when we make our arguments. Do you have any data to back up that number? Sources would be helpful.

Under the Soviet doctrine of separation of church and state, churches were forbidden to give to the poor or carry on educational activities.

Religious believers could not publish literature and churches were barred from holding special meetings for children, youth or women.

Church property was confiscated, and religion was banned from the school and university system. Students were indoctrinated with atheism and anti-religious teachings.

Gonzalez told WND there is a danger that such persecution could return.

Not "could return"; it is returning, and we vote our own persecutors in with each election.

That number is 20 million, not 200 million.

From what I’ve read, and I am no expert, mostly likely more than 20 million died of starvation in Ukraine alone. So 20 mil seems way low ball to me for total USSR murders.

So, going back to the days of Constantine, you would bet that atheists have killed more people in the twentieth century than all the Christian Popes, kings, nobles, explorers and presidents have killed since 300 AD? Very bold!

Yes, the death toll that I read about included those starved to death by the Soviet government. There is no concern for human life in Marxism.

During the French Revolution,Robespierre sent an atheist army into The Vendee,in Normandy,in order to suppress a Catholic counter revolt. They murdered over 500,000 people for the crime of believing in God.I am unaware of any analogous crime attributed to a Christian Army.

Truth to tell, I recall Robert Conquest as putting it up around 40 million. I have been going with that number but some make distinctions between actual murder and starvation which (they argue) was more from ineptitude than malice.
I simply think that as conservatives we need to have some hard, consistent numbers.
