Kevin Walsh of the University of Richmond School of Law writes:

The twitterverse is alive with tweets about Justice Scalia’s headgear for today’s inauguration. At the risk of putting all the fun speculation to an end . . . The hat is a custom-made replica of the hat depicted in Holbein’s famous portrait of St. Thomas More. It was a gift from the St. Thomas More Society of Richmond, Virginia. We presented it to him in November 2010 as a memento of his participation in our 27th annual Red Mass and dinner.

Wearing the cap of a statesman who defended liberty of church and integrity of Christian conscience to the inauguration of a president whose policies have imperiled both: Make of it what you will.

More coined the word "utopia" – a name he gave to the ideal and imaginary island nation, the political system of which he described in Utopia, published in 1516.

Utopia: something like Marxism ?

This actually beats the now famous photo of Cheney at the 2008 inauguration with his hat, black jacket and look of disgust. Love it.

>> “Mr. Justice Scalia (who happens to be Catholic) is protesting against tyranny” <<

.
So was Martin Luther; the same tyranny that Yeshua protested in his “letters to the churches.”

For those that are unappreciative of Luther’s great gift to the true church, that would be most difficult to assess I suppose...

The book does indeed describe a land governed by crazy socialistic principles. And the character whom Thomas Moore uses to speak about Utopia is called Raphael Hythlodaeus.

Hythlodaeus means 'dispenser of nonsense'.

More was writing a satire of empty-headed thought - and of course the self-styled 'utopian socialists' brought it hook, line and sinker.

Some of the best renaissance rhetorical slap down of all time are Thomas More’s letters on Luther - he pulls no punches.
Highly recommended.

Martin Luther adopted a theology designed to allow him to break his vows and have sex with a nun.

Oddly enough Henry VIII also adopted a theology designed to allow him to break his vows and have sex with someone.

Funny how religious inspiration strikes, huh?

Anyway, Thomas More was martyred because he refused to agree with Henry's actions. Which neatly brings us back to what the thread is about.

You’d have saved yourself the trouble of posting, had you read the post to which I had responded initially.

Utopia means nowhere in Latin.

So was Martin Luther

So you say ... I say you're dead wrong.

None of which is relevant to Antonin Scalia's protest against 0bammunist Tyranny. Are you with Scalia, or with 0bama? Or do you pretend that you can somehow be neutral?

Yet another case of "It was supposed to be a warning, not an instruction manual!!!!" (See also the writings of one George Orwell ...)

Do you want to apologize? I am offended by your remarks. I do not participate in these theological discussions because I want to believe we are all Christians who believe in the Nicene Creed but this remark is over the top.

It would not have been necessary for Martin Luther to change any theology if he wanted to have sex with a man--the Catholic church is infested with homosexuals who not only have sex with other men but they molest little boys as well and they don't bother to change their theology.

If I have misunderstood your remarks, I apologize but if they are as I understand, they are erroneous and destructive.

The error and irrelevence of your reply aside, you could have answered all of your questions by simply following the posts back to the one to which I had replied.

simply following the posts back to the one to which I had replied.

Hmmmm .... I have seen that sort of excuse-making before. It's as old as humanity.

Fascinating ... you had a wonderful opportunity to police your own, there ... to rebuke someone's reprehensible, erroneous, irrelevant, and unsolicited remarks ...

Instead, you chose to "high-five" that individual.

Your actions reflect badly on you and your belief system.
