Atty: Hobby Lobby won't offer morning-after pill
CBS News / The Associated Press ^ | December 28, 2012

An attorney for Hobby Lobby Stores said Thursday that the arts and crafts chain plans to defy a federal mandate requiring it to offer employees health coverage that includes access to the morning-after pill, despite risking potential fines of up to $1.3 million per day.

Hobby Lobby and religious book-seller Mardel Inc., which are owned by the same conservative Christian family, are suing to block part of the federal health care law that requires employee health care plans to provide insurance coverage for the morning-after pill and similar emergency contraception pills.

The companies claim the mandate violates the religious beliefs of their owners. They say the morning-after pill is tantamount to abortion because it can prevent a fertilized egg from becoming implanted in a woman's womb...

“We will not comply” needs to become the response of choice for anything this administration tries to foist on the American public.

If there is such a thing as a corporate blessing, they deserve it.

God be with the owners of Hobby Lobby, their employees, and their attorneys. It will be hard to find our courage in the coming year as our constitutional rights are attacked.

Plan for the worst, hope for the best, and pray without ceasing. God be with us!

GOD bless Hobby Lobby. Would that some of the politicians on our side of the aisle would grow a pair like this.

I’m with you. I bought a large picture mat, ribbon, cable cord and other miscellaneous items from HL recently. Their online service is good and their prices competitive - but I think they have a better selection than other craft stores.

Uh, Mr. Obama won the election almost two months ago. It was in all the papers, so I’m surprised you didn’t see it.

Looks like HL will be the only craft store we shop at in the future. Kudos for principles over profit.

This is essentially a TAX on business, for “non-conforming” insurance coverage on the employees.

The eventual outcome, if the dispute is not resolved in favor of Hobby Lobby, is that either the firm goes into bankruptcy, or the assets are seized by the IRS and it becomes a government-owned entity.

This level of fines assessed against any business cannot long be sustained.

Once again, success is being punished.

But, if this were an ISLAMIC-owned business, there would be no action at all taken against the owners or any fines placed on the corporate operations.

Why not just cut all employees back to 29.9 hours per week?

we will have to see how this plays out

I am not convinced that the fines will actually be assessed...it could be a bluff to enforce compliance

will arrests be made if fine’s are not paid? could be interesting to watch
the IRS has already said they will not pursue fines associated with not having the mandatory health insurance

Gosh, if you know that, then you can finally lay off kissing up to Mitt Romney.

There is a continuing discussion about the republican party here, it's future, and our individual relationships to it, and that includes information about the candidate that they just ran less than 2 months ago.

Then you can lay off doing it on this thread, the election is over, you don’t have to go after everyone who says something that you perceive as negative, about Mitt Romney anymore.

I’d be surprised if insurance companies would still be able to offer plans that don’t have the coverage the fedguv is demanding. It may not be up to Hobby Lobby to resist.
