Archbishop of Canterbury Says Anglican Church Wounded, Not Dead

LONDON (Reuters) - The leader of the Church of England on Tuesday said a vote last month that struck down proposals to allow women to become bishops had been "deeply painful", but that Christianity was still relevant in Britain despite falling numbers of believers.

Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, who leads the global 80-million-strong Anglican Communion, said in his Christmas day sermon that the answer to the question of whether Christianity had "had its day" was a "resounding no".

The Church of England narrowly voted against allowing women bishops last month - to the dismay of Williams and Prime Minister David Cameron - in a move its leaders said risked undermining its role as the established church in society with clerics in parliament's upper chamber.

The media, many politicians and some members of the public have criticized the Church of England for failing to allow women bishops and for failing to back government plans for gay marriage at a time when it is under pressure to modernize.

In separate comments aired on Tuesday but recorded earlier, the Roman Catholic Church's leader in England and Wales, Archbishop of Westminster Vincent Nichols, said the government's plans to allow gay marriage were a "shambles" and had no mandate.

No religious organization or cleric will be forced to conduct gay weddings under the plans, but critics fear that clause could be challenged under European human rights laws.

You'll notice he thinks the "wound" lies in failing to go along with the zeitgeist.

That blathering fool is supposed to step down “in December”, but true to form, he is waiting until the last dog is dead, while still yammering about his farcical interpretation of, I wouldn’t call it Anglicanism, and am not even sure that it passes for Christianity.

Hopefully he will retire to Stonehenge, to spend his time running around the woods naked with flowers in his hair, while trying to achieve magical flight.

He probably wants to serve one last secret "Communion" to his gaggle of homosexual friends among the clergy.

Rowan Williams, the great clerical atheist, says the church is wounded not dead?

He has done more to lead the dead and dying into oblivion than the next five hundred vampires.

What can he mean?

Possibly he thinks another stake through the heart is all that is required?

Go preen you beard Rowan...the Lord is watching you.

Be afraid...

him and his ilk are destroying “Christianity” in order to make it “relevent”

Yep. His idea will make “Christianity” utterless pointless.

They’ll be preaching how wonderful sins are before long.

Christianity is doing fine. Anglicanism, not so much.

Since he is of Welsh descent, I am thinking someplace in Wales. Afterall, he is known as "Rowan the Ruin Rune Druid" for a reason.

Well, the Druid-in-Chief, Dr. Rowan Williams, certainly has done his level best to destroy the Church of England on his watch. What a selfish, amoral piece of dung he is.

The Church of England narrowly voted against allowing women bishops last month - to the dismay of Williams and Prime Minister David Cameron - in a move its leaders said risked undermining its role as the established church in society with clerics in parliament's upper chamber.

It is long past time that the Church of England severed all ties with the British government.

A servant can not serve two masters. The Church of England can not faithfully serve the One True God and serve the secular government of Britain at the same time.

The bulk of The C of E’s income comes from the British Treasury it is therefore truly a servant of the government. The C of E is tasked to run a church that serves the purposes of government.

Consequently as the leaders of government became more and secular so did the church to the detriment of the church and its followers.

If the C of E is to be come once more the servant of God then it must break with the government and once more be the Sheppard of God’s flock on Earth and not the tool of ungodly men.

The C of E began its existence as a tool of government-directed social engineering. Its current state demonstrates its unbroken fidelity to its original purpose.

The denomination led by the little bearded Druid is getting carpet bombed by a B-16 flying out of Rome.

Anglicans are turning to Catholicism in droves. Henry VIII is slowly rotating in his grave.
