If places of worship start reflecting the consensus values of society, they cease to be a religion and become little more than a social club.

Yeah, to “hell” with the alleged Word of God.

But I suppose that’s pretty much where western civilization is headed, continually defining deviancy downward and continually defining tradition as perverse, oppressive, unjust.

Sorry that is not how it works. The Church of England must reflect the values of the Church of England, which hopefully are the ones instructed by God.
