Pray For Our American Heroes and Our Nation

Isaiah 40

28. Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29. He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30. Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31. but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent is Your Name Over All the Earth!
Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent,
You Alone Are Worthy to be Praised and Worshiped.
You Alone Are Holy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The One True God
You know Every One of Our American Heroes By Name. You Know Their Needs and The Desires of Their Hearts.

Precious Jesus, Our Rock and Our Redeemer,
Be A Shield For Our American Heroes.
Be Their Strength and Their Song,
Their Fortress and Their High Tower.
Let NO Weapon Formed Against them Prosper.

Beloved Holy Spirit,
Our Comforter and Friend,
Bring The Message of Salvation
to All of Our American Heroes on Silken Wings.
Whisper Deliverance in their Ears,
And Clothe Them in Your Armor.
Bestow upon Them All Of Your Precious Gifts,
That They May be Returned to us Unharmed,
With The Banner of The LORD held aloft in their Hearts,
And Victory in Their Right Hand.

My very Present Help In Times Of trouble.

I Will Not Fear The Enemy,

but By Your Holy Spirit,

Some trust in Chariots,

God’s Description
November 15, 2012

The prayers of young children show us what they think of God. Here are two I read recently:

“Dear God, what does it mean that You are a ‘jealous’ God? I thought You had everything.”

“I didn’t think orange went with purple until I saw the sunset You made on Tuesday. That was cool.”

These children are right to think of God as the owner and creator of everything, the One who can paint beautiful sunsets. But how does God describe Himself?

Moses needed an answer to that question when he was about to lead the Israelites into the wilderness. He wanted to be assured of God’s presence and leading, so he asked Him to reveal Himself (Ex. 33:13,18). In response, God came down in a cloud and said: “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, . . . by no means clearing the guilty” (34:5-7). He is good; He is just.

We too can know this God and be assured of His presence. He has revealed Himself in His creation and in His Word. As we ask Him to make Himself known to us, we’ll learn that He is even more than the owner and creator of everything!

Sing praise to God who reigns above,
The God of all creation,
The God of power, the God of love,
The God of our salvation. —Schutz

In a world of superlatives, God is the greatest.

In the coldest and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered those prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting glory and bestowed His manifold benefits upon the new Nation.

In like manner, let our prayers now rise lie a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and keep them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.
