Interesting. I have a book of meditations by Benedict XVI and today was about the primacy of reason in religion, and how Christianity is essentially not about ritual law and clerically-controlled ignorance, but about reason and understanding...with mystery.
I wish we could make an approach to women. Remember, when all the men had abandoned or didn’t believe Jesus, the women were still there...
Indeed, I do. But those were the days when women were content to assume the role of wife and mother. Men were the bread winners and women ruled the roost! They were quite persuasive in that role, too.
A close friend of mine who immigrated from Italy in the late 60's, made a comment that has remained with me all these years. Assessing the landscape of America at that juncture in time, he noted the rise of feminism and pointed to the ancient Greeks and Romans. In both cultures, once women rose to power, they were soon followed by the elevation of homosexuals to positions of power. Citing this history, he predicted that in my lifetime, I would witness the collapse of the US as a super power.
That prediction was made 50 years ago! At the time, I laughed but I never forgot what he said. His message still sends chills down my spine.
