We aren’t supposed to have wonderful lives (vanity)

Posted on 11/09/2012 6:26:38 AM PST by EverHopeful

It's fitting that we lament the uncountable violations of fundamental rights that will likely result from the last election, but it's foolish to despair. In fact, we should be glad and rejoice.

We, in general, aren't supposed to have a long life, good health, a loving spouse, fantastic sex, nurturing parents, respectful children, wealth, power, fame, honorable leaders, civilized neighbors, wise teachers, an interesting career, empathetic supervisors, obedient subordinates, and so on. Future generations aren't supposed to have them either.

We were created to be kind to the unkind, patient with the impatient, generous to the selfish, and even gentile toward the violent - to bless those who curse at us, to pray for those who conspire against us - in sum, to love those who hate us.

Judeo-Christian (agape) love is a volitional, unconditional devotion to another person, despite a full understanding that it will require tremendous self-sacrifice.

We were created in the image of God, and so when we submit to being sacrificed for the sake of our enemies, we project an image of Jesus into the eyes of others, even unbelievers, and God is glorified. That is why we were created in the first place, that is why we are very valuable, and that is why our lives have meaning.

Keep in mind, I write all of this as a complete hypocrite. I throw a tantrum if a waitress doesn't bring me exactly what I think I ordered. Nevertheless, it's the truth.

Agreed. Partly. We are also not to submit to evil. We are to call it out and shine a light on it. We are not to condone and consort with evil. Jesus drove the money lenders from His Fathers house with a whip. We were NOT made to be evils footrest but upright and honest men.

If there’s anything that gets me going, it’s people who abuse waitresses. Lottsa Christian love to you. ;-)

Can you point where in the bible it says that?
