Following the Truth: One Way To Be Sure You’re Following God’s Will… [Catholic & Open]

One Way To Be Sure You’re Following God’s Will…

“Do you really believe God loves you? If you do, you know that everything that happens in your life is for your good. And it isn’t always a peaceful experience.” (Mother Angelica)

How do I know what God wants me to do with my life? How can I be sure that I’m following His will?

While this is a concern for anyone who is sincerely trying to follow the Lord, the answer is simpler than you realize. Although there are decisions that must be made in the course of our lives, there is one sure way to be certain that we’re following the will of God. It is to simply accept everything that happens in your life as being God’s will.

That’s it? You bet! This method of discernment is so simple that it often gets overlooked. In addition, it’s one of the most difficult things that we can ever do. Why? Because it involves our accepting illness, poverty, sorrow, loneliness, humiliation and uncertainty as being part of God’s will… and that isn’t easy!

The Bible tells us that “all things work for good for those who love God” (Romans 8:28), but that is often forgotten when we are faced with unexpected challenges. Just for a minute, imagine how peaceful you’d be if you TRULY believed that everything that God permits to happen in your life is in your best interest. In reality, that’s exactly what the Church teaches. It is God’s will that we all end up in Heaven (1 Thes 4:3) and He sometimes allows “bad” things to happen in order to help us arrive at our eternal destination.

In his book, Uniformity With God’s Will, Saint Alphonsus Liguori advises, “Whenever anything disagreeable happens, remember it comes from God and say at once, ‘This comes from God’ and be at peace.” While this advice seems simple, just think of how many times we violate it each day! How often do we complain about flat tires, financial problems, poor health, heavy workloads, tiredness and so many other issues?

Today, why not try to follow God’s will by NOT complaining when unpleasant things happen? Instead, make it a point to thank the Lord for making His will known!

“Whatever good or evil befalls you, be confident that God will convert it all to your good.” (Saint Jane Frances de Chantal)

This seems appropriate after this election.

That is exactly what we are supposed to do. It’s going to be tough, but we must endure.

If my house burns down and I am penniless and hungry, I can accept that as being part of God’s will for my life, and thank Him for helping me through it. I can try to glorify Him by the way I handle these sorrows and sufferings.

But if my son becomes a drug addict and stabs me to death, I can’t consider that either of those events are God’s will! If a madman butchers millions of people, that’s not God at work—God is not capable of evil. Some things that happen on this earth are not God’s will—they are the actions of Satan. We are told that Satan prowls the world causing pain and harm, and seeking the ruin of souls, and some bad things that happen are his doing.

If americans reelect Obama I do not considre it Gods will.. God has turned his back on america just as he did to the Israelites when they broke his covenant. America must re-earn Gods love.

In a nation that promotes the murder of 50 million babies in the womb making Hitler look like an amateur there can be no grace from God.

I am so upset about what has happened to this beloved country. I read various Catholic bloggers counseling about the need to set not our trust in princes and seek the kingdom not of this world of which Our Lord spoke to Pilate. However, I still just feel so bitter, particularly that a majority of Americans apparently want the course of moral and economic suicide we are on. I know that I will eventually reach a place of serenity and trust in God and learn not to care about US politics, but I’m not quite there yet. Feeling very Eeyore-ish today.

We don’t earn God’s love. He loves us even as sinners. He waits for us to repent.

That’s understandable. The first evening I had gone to a Bible study expecting to come home to a Romney win. What a downer I came home to instead.

I do think there was fraud in certain states — and they will become a felon if it can be proven.

Until then — someone wrote — isn’t it always when there is no where else to turn that we turn to God?

America is just about there.

Another two things that need to happen from my reading:
1. Two non-denominational churches/chapels need to be erected in place of the twin towers or NY will be hit again — Matia Espinoza of South American who foresaw the twin towers coming down.

2. Our Lady of America asked that an alcove altar be dedicated to her in the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception — then as a result her protection will surround America (U. S.) — the Bishops have not yet done it.

Absolutely correct. People pine over whether or not they are in God's will. Well, if they're Christians, God will make sure they are in His will. His rod and His staff, they guide us.

But after this election perhaps we should all reflect on the following:

Discernment — **it involves our accepting illness, poverty, sorrow, loneliness, humiliation and uncertainty as being part of God’s will… and that isn’t easy!**

And the poor in spirit will inherit the Kingdom of Heaven! That makes it bearable - He is always good and faithful, even when we're not...

He must surely be opening one heck of a door as He watches us despair over the seeming closing of the door that used to be America. Israel's continuing existence, despite everything stacking up against her will strengthen my faith.

How true. This writing comes at a very important and difficult time for those of us who were hoping for a Romney win.

God is going to watch over and protect Israel as America has turn its back on the Holy Land.

I did read somewhere that the Greek Orthodox chapel that was destroyed on 9/11/01 will be rebuilt from I had read I believed late last year.

Also was the visions that you brought up ever approved at all? Thank-you. :)

Yep - and just as surely as Jesus had to die to fulfill the New Covenant, Israel must bear the brunt of the attacks as the Evil One's forces try to destroy her before He comes to set things right. It may not feel like it for many of us, but His plan is moving forward and it will not be thwarted...

I accepted the lose of my mother father husband and best friend of 30 yrs. that happened within a three yr. period as Gods will. I felt no bitterness I prayed for strength. I hope I have the same strength to over come the bitterness I feel toward 51 % that voted to destroy my country and my children and their children's future. Big shout out to the Bishops in this country who woke up when it affected them. Great job pushing for illegal immigration and socialized health-care. What a bunch of fools. Inform your flock boys of Gods laws instead of politicing for your warped vision of social justice. I’ rambling right now so I'll step away.

I think they are being studied since she was the only one who foretold 9-11.

You can read about her in the book, “The Harbinger.”
