Is It a Sin to Vote for Democrats?
The Peter Heck Show ^ | 10-29-12 | Peter Heck

Posted on 10/29/2012 9:31:19 PM PDT by ReformationFan

With the recent proclamation of a Green Bay bishop that Christians who vote for someone supporting the gay or abortion agenda is putting their soul in jeopardy, there’s been an increase in the amount of email in my inbox asking my take on whether it is a sin for Christians to be Democrats. I think a lot of people assume this is a difficult subject for me to address. I hate to disappoint them, but it’s not.

I recently read an article from a self-proclaimed “Christian Democrat” explaining why they would be voting for Obama, and to a larger degree, supporting the Democrat Party. I am intentionally not linking to the original article for a reason. The article was full of the very kind of “fine-sounding arguments” that Paul warns us in Colossians to be on guard against. Given the sorry state of Biblical Christianity in America, I know that several of these arguments could easily ensnare and trap a lot of confused Christians and I won’t willfully provide a potential stumbling block to any believer.

It should be an axiom for Christ followers that while our faith should inform our politics, our politics should never inform our faith. But this particular author, as is often the case with Christian Democrats, has made an a priori commitment to supporting the Democrats and then seeks to find faith-based reasons to justify it. But here’s the uncomfortable truth such individuals must confront: while it’s certainly true that not every Republican is worthy of our support as Christians, any individual who runs under a platform that justifies the legal slaughter of innocent life made in the image of God is an unacceptable choice. Period.

My opinion:

Of course it is a sin to vote for an enabler of killing babys.

I also believe it is a sin to vote for anyone in the party that rejected God, 3 times.

A sin? Probably not a sin. But an incredibly stupid thing to do.

I don't automatically vote Democrat or GOP. I look at the candidate and their positions.

In my mind, it is a political sin to just vote the party line.

Isaiah 5:20 -Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil.......

a genuine Christian, desiring to please and obey the Lord Jesus would not belong to or support an evil group that promotes things that are abominations to God such as abortion and homosexuality. end of story.

The concept of “sin” is not something I subscribe to. I would rather call it what it is. Treason.

"Probably not a sin. But an incredibly stupid thing to do."
Doing stupid things is sinful. "Love God with your whole heart, mind, and soul." The mind includes the intellect.

"It should be an axiom for Christ followers ..."
Christ followers don't need axioms. They need virtues.

Plenty of state House races here in CT where the DEM is more pro-family than the NARAL Republican candidate.

and races for the US House:
Roraback CT-5 R NARAL
Obsitnick CT-4 R NARAL
Tisei MA-5 R NARAL
Bass NH-2 R NARAL

and that guy in upstate NY .... R NARAL

those are 5 US House races where it is better if the DEM wins and then we come back with a center-right GOP candidate in '14.

If you understand democrats like I do, yes, I think it’s a sin. When you vote for a democrat you vote to keep minorities as slaves to the plantation of democrat rule. You give them little bits of goodies to keep them there, tell them it’s their right to receive goodies for nothing, keep them dependent on the state, and ensure they will blindly vote democrat every election. How is that good in any way? It robs them of their spirit, and self respect. and dooms them to a life of service to the plantation. It robs them of a sense of responsibility, and blinds them to the life that they could have otherwise. I hope that many of them are waking up to this, and can free themselves from the bonds of their democrat masters. Time will tell, but I don’t see how it could not be a sin to vote for that.

A sin? Well, think about it. 1. Homosexuality is condemned in the Scriptures in several places, yet it is a veritable honor to the democRATS.
2. The heathen, and even reprobate Hebrews were excoriated by God, through the prophets, for sacrificing their children to various pagan gods, and we all know that abortion is a high holy sacrament to the ‘RATS.

I would hazard a guess that if an individual is casting their vote and lending support to the ‘RAT cause, it could be construed as “wishing them God speed”. I also believe that such a person is not “abiding in the doctrine of Christ,” who is 100% pro-life! They’re on very thin ice, to my mind.

2nd John 1:9 thru 11 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

Sin is doing something outside of the Biblical LAW. Yes, abortion is the taking of a life and is SIN. The Bible describes Marriage and deciding marriage is something else is SIN. I also believe that drinking alcohol, which is a corruption of grape juice, is SIN....

Really no one knows how the Almight will judge you, on judgement day.

Yet, one must weigh the costs carefully when it’s your soul that is in the balance.

He gave us his word to go by, and his Son who came and died spilling his innocent blood so we might be saved.

It’s not something to toss lightly off.

But I will say this, isn’t it interesting that party more and more becomes liberal with that book. Why would they make the issue so confusing? Why not just do as the book says, with no need for arguements to make it seem okay to walk outside the line?

Satan has a glib tongue.

WADR, you can regard it as sin, but that view is not Biblical. Drunkenness is certainly sin, but not drinking alcohol per se. (This kind of stuff gets too close to Islam. Did Jesus turn water into “corrupted grape juice” at the wedding in Cana, then?)

For the record, the word “sin” is translated generally from Hebrew chatta’ah and Greek hamartios, both of which mean to either fall short of a standard or to break a standard (law). The word sinne from Middle English is synonymous with the modern word crime also.
