I have even heard Roman Catholics, Orthodox and Jews described as Evangelical in the media.
I think the word now means Non-Marxist religions.

Not too long ago a writer in the Washington Post actually referred to the Pope hissef' as "pushing Evangelical" whatevers.
They're mostly fallen away reformed Jewish converts to some sort of Epi-scopal church organization somewhere, so I"m really not surprised.
