I'm sorry, but I was made to understand that the victims were Mormons that Brigham Young had problems with. I don't remember anywhere reading that they were Christians. If that's the case, then they definitely should have a cross erected somewhere.
Most of the Mountain Meadow victims were baptized Christian (not Mormon) at the time of the massacre. It was only over a century after the massacre that these victims were “proxy baptized” in the Mormon sect by descendants of the original perpetrators. This act was protested by descendants of the Christian victims, as you can read here:

They were Christians — but I only know that by a friend who is a descendant of one of the few survivors, and who has attended a couple commemorative events there. She has NO love for mormonism.
