'University should have gotten a Christian to speak not someone who practices a cult'

(CNN) Liberty University students and alumni are accusing the Christian school of violating its own teachings by asking Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, a member of the Church of...Mormons, to deliver its 2012 commencement address.

By Friday morning, more than 700 comments had been posted on the school’s Facebook page about the Thursday announcement – a majority of them decidedly against the Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr.’s invitation, citing that the school had taught them Mormonism isn’t part of the Christian faith.

Yup. We saw this coming...where even Christians start becoming apologists and shills for a cult.

The sifting is here...

It’s heartening that the students are protesting, though.

And yet in 2010 when Glen Beck was the speaker, the students cheered at the announcement. I guess those folks graduated.

I imagine at one time Harvard's students got upset when it shifted from being a purely christian university to embrace speakers of other disciplines.

A university will have to decide what it wants. It if wants purely christian education, it will desire a certain slate of speakers. If it wants to educate students in a variety of disciplines, it will want to invite speakers who are specialists in their fields...not necessarily christians.

The problem with Willard isn’t that he’s a Mormon, it’s that he is an absolutely immoral abomination and pathological liar. For someone with his (lack of) character traits, he has no business addressing any religious university.

Given that Lds teaches that temple Mormons are "gods in embryo" on their way to full-grown godhood, let's reverse this for a moment & try on your statement for size.

Let's say tomorrow Obama claims he is Messiah II...but says he won't discuss if further.

Then, in all the reactions to that "pronouncement," you come on and claim: "The problem with Zero isn’t that he thinks he's Messiah II, it’s that he is an absolutely immoral abomination and pathological liar."

So...you're telling us you're not adverse to ANY POTUS candidate claiming to be "Jesus." You'll just "roll" with that, eh?

And I suppose you go in on all of our "Obama is a 'closet Muslim'" threads and announce, "The problem with Zero isn't that he's a 'closet Muslim...'"

Are you consistent there?

I get so bloody tired of this; my religion, faith and creed, is the only true religion, faith and creed and is is better than your evil stupid religion, faith and creed, I could scream.

There.

Your own "self-righteousness" just refuted yourself!

As further explanation of my last comment: So you don't like the apparent exclusiveness & intolerance you perceive, eh? Based upon some apparent self-claim to a higher moral ground or "self-righteousness," eh?

Well, aren't you also intolerant of these postures?

Don't you claim to be exclusively condemning this?

Haven't you carved out for yourself some higher moral ground or ground of "self-righteousness" that claims condemnation upon these groups?

Why is your stand automatically accorded a position that will trump or upstage theirs?

Is your individual religion, faith and creed -- even if it's only SeaParrotism -- so "sacred" that only YOU have a license to self-righteously condemn others?

Who gave you such a license? Or are YOU the highest religious authority you know and it was self-issued?

Are you a "god" (small 'g')?

I understand what you’re saying. I don’t agree with LDS theology, nor of any religion that would lead their followers to believe they are “Gods.” My point was that if Liberty U. was to have a Mormon speaker, I’m sure they could find someone who isn’t so viscerally antithetical to their standards of behavior and ideology (although clearly the theology differs).

Well, they should do the right thing and refuse to attend, or do a walk out en masse.

The KOLOBIAN should have been jeered out of this race in derision months ago, time to go all Ceausescu on him.

You have to understand that the only intolerance that is tolerated is intolerance to Christians because they are intolerant.

I saw this on my local news the other night. I was so heartened to see the students’ response. One of them said, “Mitt Romney shares NONE of our values and has no business being here.” I’m proud of the LU kids.

What’s wrong with these kids? This is the same type of absurd, knee-jerk reaction that showed up when Kennedy was elected as the first catholic to hold the office. Let’s leave it to the left to do these charades.

What’s wrong with them? They don’t want an abortion-enabling, homosexual-loving liberal as their commencement speaker. And the fact that he is a member of a cult which blasphemes and denies the Bible makes it worse.

And you compare that to being Catholic? Really??

I’d really like to know; I’d like to hear the school administration’s rationale for this decision, and how are they justifying it.
