“audiences would learn not to throw cash their way”

The sucker born every minute is a truism applied to audiences of televangelical pastors. Morons, idiots, suckers, fools, mentally impaired, dingbats with money in their pockets and mostly middle-aged women and grandmothers.

Tammy was going from room to room and explaining why this feature or that feature of this pretty luxurious home was necessary for the relaxation of herself and Jim and their family after all the hard work they did "for the Lord".

Yes, because after a long hard day of preaching, and healing the sick, and all that, Jesus needed to have a luxurious place to come home to in order to relax.

Bocephus had these guys pegged in 1982:

They want you to send your money to the Lord,
but they give you their address.

Now, if they could train their dogs to use the toilet in the motor home I’d be really impressed...

That’s easy. All their followers need do is to pony up another $100k to train their dogs to do just that.

I don't get that - Brittany Koper is the whistleblower yet alleged in a lawsuit last year that the Kopers used forged documents to embezzle funds to buy trucks, jewelry, a fishing boat, a motorcycle, a Lexus and life insurance, and gave McVeigh thousands of dollars without authorization.

What am I not understanding?

Sam Kinneson had a pretty accurate assessment of Televangelists, as did the Metal group “Anthrax” and the 1990ish song “Make me Laugh”

“God says have a TV show
God says baby, do some blow
God says taxes are a sin
God says pour the money in
God says planes and boats and cars
God says build an amusement park....

Funny...God never told ‘me’ any of that. Tele-types must be special.

My thought exactly!! I was looking at that picture and thought “Why is she holding a dog at a wedding?!?!”

TBN is to authentic Christianity as John Edwards is to public service. (But they both have really nice hair!)

This is way better than that air conditioned dog house that Jim and TammyFaye Baker had for their dogs!

That was in Gatlinburg, TN wasn't it?

I don’t recall. I just remember their home and possessions were being auctioned off and the air conditioned dog house just stuck in my mind forever.

Actually you might be surprised, but the best Christian television network, IMO is KTV (Kids and Teens television), I am grown man-but the simple message of the Gospel through Children’s Christian cartoons, and television shows is actully a big encouragment to me. Sounds strange, but many of these programs tell the plain word of God, and you can tell the Holy Spirit was beind them. Shows like Adventures in Odyssey and Adventures of Donkey Ollie!

Funds generated in the Bible are to 1) support or partially support those who "labor in word and doctrine." (1 Tim 5:17) And to take care of the poor. (1 Cor 16:1: Now concerning the collection for the saints)

If you want a travesty, check out of a lot of the megachurches these days. HDTVs everywhere, plush seating, I could go on, but it makes me sick. How many bibles would an HDTV pay for? A lot.
