Lesbian with kids in Catholic school demands removal of Catechism quote on homosexuality

BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, March 16, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A self-proclaimed ‘lesbian’ whose two children attend a Catholic school near Peterborough is demanding that the Peterborough Catholic school board remove a Catechism quote dealing with homosexuality from a school pamphlet. Ann Michelle Tesluk has started an online petition to pressure the board to action and describes her activities as gearing to make the Catholic Church into an “openly gay friendly church.”

The pamphlet in question, however, is controversial from more than one perspective. While quoting the Catechism that the homosexual inclination is “objectively disordered”, the pamphlet also misrepresents Catholic teaching in numerous ways. The pamphlet calls on schools to highlight homosexual role models and familiarize students with terms like “LGBTQQ” and “two-spirited.” It indicates that Canada legalized same-sex “marriage” in 2005 without mentioning that the Church opposes such unions. The heading for the equity pamphlet's section on "homophobia".

Greg Reeves, director of education for the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland Clarington Catholic District School Board (PVNCCDSB), told LifeSiteNews that they have had enough complaints about the pamphlet, called The Colour of Equity, to give the wording a “relook” to see if they can explain the Church’s teaching better.

The trustees voted 6 to 8 last Tuesday against a request to remove the passage, but Nancy Sharpe, the board’s head of communications, said that the pamphlet has been sent for review to the Equity and Inclusive Education committee.

Reeves says the school board felt they needed to include the Catechism passage because they are “under the Magisterium of the Church, the teaching and the authority of the Church.”

“When we were going into the section on orientation, we felt it important that people understand what the Catholic Catechism would say,” he explained.

In her online petition, which has garnered 86 signatures thus far, Tesluk says the Catholic Church’s teachings on homosexuality are “outdated and harmful” and suggests the teachings have exacerbated the problem of teen suicides.

“As it is right now, it is derogatory, patronizing and discriminatory, not to mention lacking in scientific evidence,” she says. “Any child who reads this will be faced, at minimum, with a negative attitude towards homosexuality,” she continues. “Isn’t this what we are trying to prevent? How can we allow any school in Ontario to teach this to our children?”

Reeves said the complaints are largely a result of confusion over the Church’s teaching, saying that the Catechism’s “phraseology is old.”

According to Reeves, by calling the homosexual inclination “objectively disordered,” the Church means that homosexual relationships are disordered. According to Church teaching, he explained, authentic sexual relationships must be both unitive and procreative.

“It’s not the person who’s disordered,” he said. “It’s the concept that the relationship, in the eyes of the Catholic Church in this definition, is disordered.”

But Prof. Scott Nicholson, chair of theology at Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy in Barry’s Bay, Ontario, said the Catechism teaching is not about the homosexual relationship per se, but a disorder in the person’s sexual drive.

“It is true that acting on it is disordered,” he explained, “but above and beyond that the inclination itself isn’t something that you’d find in human beings except for original sin.”

“In a fallen world, individuals have various disorders in them that may not be any fault of their own but they remain disordered,” he continued. “Someone born blind, that’s an objective disorder because we’re meant to see, that’s what eyes are for. The sexual drive is meant to be inclined and lead people toward reproduction.”

“If it’s ordered in a particular individual in a way that isn’t inclined towards reproduction then it’s disordered. It’s out of the order for which it’s meant,” he added.

Sharpe said the Equity and Inclusive Education committee will decide whether to remove the language or perhaps explain it, and then make a recommendation to the trustees.

“I know that the language of that passage will have to be explained at the committee meeting because many of us don’t understand it because it was written by theologians,” she said.

Prof. Nicholson noted that the Catechism is not a work of high theology but intended for a “wide audience.” “It’s really intended for every educated, and I’d even go so far as to say semi-educated, Catholic,” he said.

The Church needs to use precise language, he added, to say exactly what it means on issues of importance.

As the province’s Catholic school boards adopted McGuinty’s equity and inclusive education strategy in the last two years, pro-family advocates warned that it would give homosexual activists a foothold to further undermine the effort to impart Catholic sexual teaching.

According to Tesluk, during the six years her children have attended school in the board, she has held various positions on the local school council.

If a gay gene is discovered, will Christians be aborting “gay” babies?

No such thing will be found.

If she wants a gay church she should simply move over to Episcopalian. They are falling all over themselves to embrace homosexuals. There are a million ‘gay themed’ Churches in country. What special claim does she have to this particular Church? Just go somewhere else. Simple.

Ah, But of course, that is not the point. This is all just nonsense meant to damage the church.

The thing Leftists cannot stand is that anyone would disagree with them about anything. Anyone with a different opinion than *their* enlightened view must be destroyed. Even if that someone is God.

So, now you have children who are obviously already in a dysfunctional situation, being used as soldiers by a Leftists homo. Great.

Where are the courts now? The ones who are always screaming about ‘for the good of the children’. Where are they when children are being made to bear the brunt of an anit-Christian/pro-Gay protest? How can this be good for them.

Does anyone believe that she enrolled these children in this particular church specifically for this reason and with this agenda in mind? Did she not know what a church is? Is she that stupid? Is she going to enroll her kids in mechanics' school next and then come out against gasoline engines? You guys really should be using bio-fuels. You're hurting the planet!! You're teaching my children bad things!

If this woman were in anyway serious about what she claims to want, she would have removed the children until her ‘demands’ are met. But, she is not serious. She is not behaving in an adult manner in the interests of the children. And, she is putting her children out in public on the front lines as props for her anti-Church gay agenda.

In her upside-down view of reality, I am sure she will claim that the church is hurting ‘the children’, (do it for the children...) and will refuse to recognize that it is her. She created the situation, not the church. She put her children there of her own volition. The church didn't kidnap them.

And, of course, I cannot end without mentioning Muslims. She, or any homo, would never ever do this to a Mosque. They are always looking for soft targets. The irony is that if a gay did try this with a mosque and the Arabs beat the crap of him/her/it, the story would never make the news and there would be no lawsuits at all. If anyone in this Church even looks at her in a way she doesn't like, it will be in every paper in the country and lawyers will descend on the place like locusts. The current state of America is: Church is bad. Islam is sacred.

No Christian would abort a baby. They might call themselves that, but they aren’t. On the other hand muslims will abort gay babies no matter what age they are, born or unborn.

When my husband and I lived in the middle east (for five years), the Saudis forbade abortion. It was against the law. I can't think that the Saudi brand of Islam, which is the MOST conservative brand, has changed. However, I'm sure that there were some bad Muslims who left the country and had the abortion...if they had the money. Not all Saudis are wealthy. I knew a lot of non-wealthy ones.

There IS no test for "gay babies"...yet. But I doubt that the conservative Muslims would allow abortion even for that. They are so...conservative. However, I can't speak for other Muslim countries as I only VISITED them. I do know that Saudi culture doesn't change much or fast. Yes, I have kept in contact with those I knew overseas.

Abortion is RAMPANT in "Christian" countries, but you're right when you say that NO CHRISTIAN would abort. They may call themselves Christian countries, but Christianity stops with the name.

Obviously, if a gay gene is discovered, Christians will be defending gay babies. As we do no matter what the baby's disability may be.

If there were to be such a discovery, and I don't believe there will be, it would thoroughly fracture the leftist hodgepodge of grievance groups hanging together by a thread.

Aborting a gay baby would be regarded as a hate crime by some, and a woman's inviolable “right” by others. The mushy middle with vague moral underpinnings would abort them with abandon, because they'd find it embarrassing or an affront to their sense of vanity, despite the appearance of going along with the whole tolerance thing.

This would give rise to a gay pro-life movement, as improbable as that sounds.

Christian pro-lifers would be extremely resistant to accepting abortion under practically any circumstance short of a threat to the life of the mother, and many wouldn't advocate it even then. They'd put it into the hands of God and leave it at that.

I have a gay nail guy. He is a genius with nails.
We discussed this so called "gay gene" and I said this to him a while back: an alliance of Catholics and homosexuals: DON'T ABORT BABIES! and DON'T ABORT YOUR GAY BABY!

It would be bizarre!

Then she will sue and have the State force the school to change.

Freedom of association. Though that was gutted in the sixties (civil rights movement).

When will Christians overturn the moneychangers’ tables? When will we say to those who mock God, “Get out! Take your perversions, your money, your power, your twisted disciples, and LEAVE.

Americans, in general, and Christians, in particular, have have been propagandized and pressured to accept what we know is wrong, but sin is still sin. If we have the courage to take a strong stand, others will follow. We can start by ousting Socialist/Communist officials and continue by cleansing our churches of the secular/humanist corrosion there.

Amen Brother.

The Church doesn’t need to change because this fruit or any other fruit doesn’t like it.If they do not want to live up to the tenets of Catholicism they need to move on to something that suits them better.

Unfortunately our gay Friendly atmosphere these days does not allow what should be done. Where did the child come from anyway? Is it adopted, a semen plant, was she once married to a man?
What needs to be done is to take this child from her and place it in a family of man and wife. This poor kid hasn’t a prayer of being normal.

If a gay gene is discovered, will Christians be aborting "gay" babies?

If the Christian is Catholic it would be a mortal sin. But, there WILL be Catholics who abort.

Other Christians? I'm not cognizant of what the other many, many Christians denominations say about abortion. Are you?
