I’m gonna get it, ain’t I? ;) ...Not anymore!
Won't be til Midnight Mass.
(c'mon, you knew that!)
My mother is French, she takes her Nativity Creche seriously; we always had a dog in it.
I asked her when I was a boy why there wasn’t a cat too. Her response was, “keep the cat out of the living room.”
Well, two out of three.....
If ANY animal can get to heaven, its a dog.
I think its a great idea.
It’s a nice touch, and it is traditional as seen in many old paintings.
One year I had a variety of animals surrounding the creche. They were those little China animals collectible with Red Rose Tea.
The kids loved it...so much, in fact, that I had given away the whole collection before New Year’s Day!
Grinch!
(No, not really.)
Dog spelled backwards is G-O-D.
My daughter and I have been very involved in dog rescue and adoption. The majority of those dogs were Basset Hounds; the breed just fit our lifestyle. When the last one passed away, I decided to take a break. My daughter, OTOH, couldn't bear to be without a dog in the house and brought home a Great Dane! Zeus filled the home with his large frame and docile personality. Despite all that lovin', I still missed the "popcorn scent" of basset paws and those sweet brown eyes.
My daughter spent a weekend in Maine this autumn and brought me home a plaque that reads: Heaven is where you meet all the dogs you ever loved." It brought back the happy memories of the bassets.
A few weeks later, she told me there was a Basset Hound on the adoption list at our local shelter. One quick glimpse at that sweet face and I was down there the next morning, Zeus in tow, to see if the two were compatible. Lilly (the BH) took to Zeus immediately and the following day, she came home to live with us. Here is a picture of the Zeus and Lilly playing at home.
Wish I had miniatures of them both to place in my own nativity set. Zeus would have kept Jesus warm with his massive body weight and Lilly would have kept him entertained. She is the 'Totie Fields' of basset hounds.
Very beautiful dogs. I love the patent leather shine on Zeus’s coat.
Heaven is where you meet all the dogs you ever loved.”
That’s beautiful.
Those two dogs are too. Rally cute and lovable looking. You are most fortunate in very many ways.
That’s a GREAT name for a parish dog. He looks really cute.
Sweet!
Basset hounds are the best. I had one who was almost human. Whenever I would put on a big bands record, he would come into the livingroom howling and standing up for a “dance”. I would give him a whirl around the floor a couple of times.
(Now people know I am really eccentric).
He also knew how to play “hot beans” with the kids, carefully and craftily hiding the object when it was his “turn”, and using his sensitive nose to sniff out the object when he was the seeker.
I have to get me one of those plaques.
No, you won't be getting it for at least a week. Pig.
Impressive, isn't it? Would you believe the lustrous coat comes from Dawn liquid dish detergent! That is what the breeder recommended. Every few weeks, Zeus steps into the shower with my daughter and emerges with that gorgeous glow. He loves the shower!
You have to train them from a puppy to love it, though. We failed to train the mastiff when he was young, now he has to go to the groomer every so often, where there are stairs for him to get into a tub. *sigh*
Lol! Would love to see that pic :-) And how about those toe nails! No matter how much good faith effort I use, tackling the dog for nail trimming makes wrestling look like a child’s sport. Basset nails are the thickness of a #2 pencil. One of our former hounds would wail as soon as the vet took out the clippers. Now I just bring the dog to the groomer. It’s a day at the spa for Lilly and freedom from guilt for me ;-)
He is fine with the stairs, they go up the outside and down into the water.
Otherwise, we bathe him outside in warm weather, he does well with the hose. Sort of like washing a wiggly volkswagen.
Toenails? LOLOL! Someone has to hold his head while someone else cuts the toenails with a huge clipper. He just wiggles so much.
