Occupy Wall Street & Religion embrace {First Presbyterian Church and First Congregational United}

In Oregon, two Salem churches (First Presbyterian Church and First Congregational United Church of Christ) have opened their parking lots to local Occuppy Wall Street protestors. The Presbyterian Church is trying to make room for the daily “Occupation Tango” dance that the protesters do. Protest organizers in Boston, New York, and Chicago have made sure that religion and faith communities are an accepted and welcomed part of an economic protest that began in cities nationwide a few weeks ago. In Boston, organizers established a “Sacred Space” tent where protestors can gather, sans shoes, for spiritual reflection regardless of religious affiliation. Yom Kippur services, as well as an Islamic Friday prayer service have been held at Occupy Wall Street, among other examples.

Voluntary efforts by organizers in some cities to integrate a faith element with an economic protest partly reflects an acknowledgment that faith communities and religious leaders have played unique roles in past civil rights and other social change movements. It also reflects the movement’s claim to represent the “99 percent” of society, which by mathematical deduction, should reflect varying levels of support across America’s diverse religious landscape. To date, however, the nationwide protest has mainly attracted clergy from the left concerned with economic and social justice for the powerless, but it has not garnered much support among evangelical Protestants, Catholics, or suburban churchgoers in general.

While participating clergy and faith groups remain unsure how and to what extent they should be involved in the protest, those interviewed expressed the desire to promote unity and love within the movement, as well as to help bring healing to a polarized country.

Further and further away the Presbyterians slip. however, thankfully as the article says the OWS has not garnered much support among evangelical Protestants, Catholics, or suburban churchgoers in general.

If I belonged to either of these churches, I would be withdrawing my membership immediately. Of course, these churches wouldn’t be doing this stuff if their congregations weren’t full of liberal nutjobs.

Anyone remember that scene in “Life of Brian”? Where he opens that window and the crowd repeats every word he says?
At one point he yelled at them “we are all individuals!” ,,, and they repeated it back word for word. They look exactly like the OWS crowd.

Well with the homosexuals/pedifile scandal and coverup at the catholic church the same could be said that any parent with children should move their family out rather than to subject their children to the risk which remains...and hidden behind closed doors.

For ANY church who refuses to identify and rid itself of such,... and that which opposes directly the things of God...members should definately change their affiliation if the "garbage" isn't being taken out....no matter what the denomination.

LOL - the parking lots at these churches are probably empty all week anyhow. I wonder if they also are sharing the restrooms with the loonies? If so they will soon look like this:

Some churches bathrooms and other areas DO look like that...hidden beneath the whitewash they are covered in...but eventually there isn’t enough whitewash to cover what oozes from those areas...then they move to another area and defile that as well.

Even nature reacts...a major city has a park where these pervets meet to do thier deeds...it is known for that. All the trees and grounds are barren and lack the luster of the rest of the park. Were it not for how huge this park area is it likely would not be so noticable...but it clearly a “marked” area. Like tress and shrubbery where dogs urinate on a constant... eventually destroys it.
