Monstrosity is what I call it, also. It has a look of cold arrogance about it.
Mat 16:19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
Do you have that verse in your bible?
Like I said SPECIFCS, Real one not the Boettner, LaHaye made up ones
Please keep in mind that itwas the Catholic Church that ordered the canon of Scripture in 393 in Hippo, reassereted it in Carthage in 397 and kept it alive by copying it by hand for the 1045 years before the introduction of the printing press. Keep in mind that the very fifsrt printed using movable type was ......... wait for it......... the Catholic Bible.
Like I said SPECIFICS, Rreal Specifics, not the Boettner, Lahaye made up Cr@p.
Thank you Judith Anne for pointing this out. This particular freeper has a penchant for visiting Catholic threads and challenging any and all information posted. Their purpose in doing so? I believe they have exposed their animosity towards the Catholic Church.
And, while this building is surely no Chartres, it is far more attractive than the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe - a standing insult to the patroness of the Americas.
Indeed. Don’t feed Miss Troll.
Considering that a number of main RC cathedrals in CA look so modernistic, the worse being Our Lady of the Angels, this possible conversion of Crystal Cathedral cannot be any worse. I have even read on one of the other threads that the RC Cathedral in Oakland, CA goes with the nickname of “Our Lady of Maytag” because it looks like the agitator of a washing machine.
Our Lady of the Angels in LA, and the Crystal Cathedral in Orange County. Both really ugly buildings!
Truly, both buildings are awful, to say the least. Our Lady of the Angels has statues “designed” by Anjelica Huston’s husband, Robert Graham. The statues are as soulless and ugly as one might expect.
The Crystal Cathedral is a multi-million dollar eyesore. Think Superman’s “Fortress of Solitude” meets Las Vegas...if you ever read Heinlein’s “Stranger in a Strange Land”, the ultra-rich pseudo-religious Fosterites of the story would feel right at home in the Crystal Cathedral.
I don’t understand why the Diocese of Orange would want the Crystal Cathedral, unless they are upset that they don’t have a Cathedral to compete with Our Lady of the Angels for the “Ugly Cathedrals of the World” award.
I can’t help but think of Tolkien’s “The Two Towers”....!
Certainly both Dioceses can come up with better buildings..this Catholic certainly hopes so!!
These, first of all, were buildings of masonry. When stripped of their pagan adornment they were highly serviceable edifices. This Crystal Monstrosity is an aesthetic insult to the senses on a par with that other cathedral down there. This building could not be disguised or remodeled to make it a sensible church. It is wholly a distraction for use in services that are not enhanced by glitter and smash. It is a showman’s palace worthy of the sainted P.T. Barnum and of certain Evangelical charlatans.
I have seen pictures of both. I would not enter either for any reason.
The only word that comes to mind is "Fugly."
Someone is going to spending more than a little time in purgatory for that.
“Fugly!” is indeed the perfect word!!
I followed the suggestion of your tagline, and added this to my amazon wish list. It will be ordrered the next pay check. Thank you for the good advice.
There is a large Muslim population in that region of Orange County, so hopefully it won’t be sold and used as a mosque.
Another thought I had was that a front organization for a Muslim group could be used to purchase the Crystal Cathedral, it could then be made a mosque after the deal was signed.
