I agree... the Diocese needs a space and there is one that is readily available! Why waste money that can be used in so many more critical needs, building a new Church when this one will serve quite well!
They do have some competition in the bidding with Chapman University and a developer who wants to tear everything down to build housing.
Perhaps -- of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I find it an ugly structure, but you're correct that others may find it beautiful and I respect their opinion
Perhaps it is more than the physical structure? -- Yes, it IS more than a physical structure -- this is in Stare Bielany on ulica Płatnicza and is Parafia Św. Zygmunta, and, like other churches here is crowded for all the masses each Sunday and on weekdays too.
The cathedral actually looks far better on the inside, yet I still contend that it's an ugly eyesore. To see a truly beautiful Catholic house of worship in the Southland, visit Mission San Fernando Rey de España, built in 1797.

Yes, several people did contribute to the building, and some of them may be quite talented; however, one of the main “contibutors” of the project was Robert Graham, who is a local, but as the multi-millionaire husband of Anjelica Huston, he’s hardly a “humble artisan”, and his contribution to the Church is awful.
I studied architectural design in college, and worked in the field for many years. I stand by my judgement of the building.
I was quite impressed with the level of PRIVATE funding involved in this project and those involved in the process of executing the building and furnishing of the facilities. Many , many artists donated their work and received payment only for materials. Your distaste for one artist is perhaps responsible for your point of view. Yet I think your criticism is more in the realm of personal taste than informed design, but that is quite acceptable.
the only “bad news” is that the upkeep is high...too many windows
But I suspect painting them or putting up shades would solve the problem.
