It’s not an absolute, iron-clad requirement for a Latin Rite priest to say Mass daily, but it’s strongly encouraged — a duty which should not be waived for a non-serious reason.
“Fr. Corapi has always seen the priesthood as a vehicle to become a multi-millionaire”
You have proof of this? How do you know how Fr. Corapi views the priesthood? Did he tell you this personally? “Let not mercy and truth leave thee”....(Proverbs 3:3).
“hes a maverick with a private (for profit) company. This is unheard of.”
Not in his order. As his SOLT superior has explained, when Fr. Corapi entered the order, the founder expected members to support themselves. These arrangements were sanctioned by his superior.
“The cause here is Corapis personal wealth and ego gratification”.
Are you privy to his financial statements? If not, you have no idea what he does with the money. And why assume he is seeking ego gratification? Are you privy to his psychological disposition?
“As my earlier posts have explained, to some scorn, he never should have been ordained.”
I didn’t see any scorn regarding your earlier comment - only honest disagreement. And since the Church grants dispensations regarding priestly eligibility, there are no absolutes regarding ordination.
What a lot of cradle catholics don’t get is this: A lot of priests are not in parish ministry. Let me repeat: A lot of priests are not in parish ministry. Let that sink in.
Many, many priests teach, work in offices, are even groundskeepers & bookkeepers for church properties.
Your Bing Crosby mental image is a figment of your imagination.
Get a grip and some perspective, people.
A note to about 3/4 of the Catholics I know: Please get past being in the 6th grade when it comes to your religion. Grow up. It won’t kill you. It may help you and it will certainly help the church.
BTW, Dcn Kendra knows that many priests are not engaged in parish ministry. He also knows that many catholics aren’t very well informed on this, and that this can be used for effect.
Dcn Kendra blogs for Patheos, which is a very progressive thing. Have a look, but the more innocent of you might want to make sure you’re sitting down first: http://www.patheos.com/
