What a fool. He's imagining that Islam is somehow going to "liberalize" when in fact it is only going to get more intolerant. Because if Muslims wanted to live a tolerant life, they wouldn't be Muslims. The great appeal of Islam is not its piety or its devotion to God; there are plenty of other religious experiences that can supply that. It's the Herrenvolk aspect of being part of the Ummah; it's being superior.
And it reduces it to just follow the rules, pray 5 times in the exact same way, bow, bend, touch your **** and prostrate exactly the same and remember that you have no free will, there is no such thing as a scientific law because Allah recreates everything in every minute, so what is 10' now can be 193' in the next instance, Inshallah.

I must add in that this is only true for Sunni Islam (80% of Islam), especially Wahabbism and to some extent for Shias (12ers more) -- Ismailis and Bohras and Dawood Bohris seem to have some lee-way but all are ruled by hereditary Aga Khans or Syednas respectively.
I'm not terribly sure of Ibadis or Ahmadiyyas and I know that Druze, Allawis are not even considered Moslem and their religions include a lot of either Gnosticism or Platonic ideas
