One adopted things from the other, but the 2 are not alike.
One calls itself a religion, the other is not.
I lived amoung many Mormons when I lived in Western NM, back in the 1972-1986 time frame. There was one I knew who was a Mormon Bishop and a Freemason (not common). I even noticed a backhanded slap against Freemasons from Beck on one of his TV programs. Beck has lots of good observations about the Left (Progressives, Marxists, Commies) but has his own issues.
In the mid-1980’s I was Republican County Chairman there. There were 3 groups who I could always count on to support us at the polls, they were the rock-ribbed Republican Ranchers, the Mormons and the John Birchers. (this was a mine/union town and the registration was 5 Dems to 1 Republican) Tough turf.
This West Texas farm boy, learned to hate “lefties” and what they do by living amoung them in Western NM. A real Education.
How about the ranch WORKERS?
How did they align politically?
They were all with the ranchers. Ranch hands have nothing in common with Union slugs.
Is it because the ranch OWNERS were right there, working with the hired help and the mine OWNERS were off in some far away office, penthouse or estate?
The long answer to your question would take pages. I know the culture there, very well.
The short answer is NO.
I was just guessing, based upon the physical closeness of their relationships - workers to bosses.
The only miners that I am familiar with is my last pastor and his dad (Indiana coal) both republican and Christian.
I live out in farm country and my area is overwhelmingly Republican. (We have good soil around here.)
In the southern part of the state (hilly), the people of the land tend to be more Democrat (Though I suspect they are of the mindset of the D’s of 40 years ago.)
