Naw, atheists don't need no steenkin' book...
Would strongly bet most of these converts were only nominally catholic, and probably are only nominally mormon.

I have heard that as well. According to a study that came out a few years ago, the LDS convert retention rate past one year (min time go to the temple) is less than 50%. In South America it is less than 25%.
Oh that’s right, I’ve seen Heart of the Matter.
I was in the military. Never noticed any magic underwear, but I’m a girl. A guy friend of mine was LDS. He did wear the garments (you could see the outline of it on his thigh sometimes). He was pretty casual about it and didn’t live according to what I now know are the requirements. He drank beer and didn’t go to services. He never went on a mission.
I want to go to one of the big festivals, like in Monterey. How awesome would it be to have that many people in once place full of the joy of the Lord, worshipping together?
I have always wanted to go to one those also. I was scheduled to work the prayer team at Spirit West Coast - San Diego a few years ago but ended up not being able to go because of sickness. Maybe next year, God willing. :)
He sounds like a mostly normal guy . I have two cousins who were ROTC and devout mormons , bishops - the whole catastrophe They were the only two of their four brothers not to go on missions .One served 6 years and and one is still in uniform .
That’s the one, Spirit West Coast. I’d love to plan on going this summer but we’ll have to see. I think God has big plans for us coming up!
Since kb’s post was removed, and mine removed because I quoted him in full, I will post this again.
I am speaking from experience both from being LDS and living in Utah. While I was LDS I knew several young LDS men, and trained to serve an LDS mission myself.
There are specific worthiness requirements the LDS church has for serving a mission if you fail to meet these requirements you are not considered worthy and, in some cases, shunned. Those that were shunned all joined the military.
I tried 4 times (all branches) to join the military but was denied because of severe hearing loss, i even tried to lie about it but it came up in testing and during my physical (perforated ear drums). I would have loved nothing more than to serve my country.
I did know about 40 LDS service men (and 3 retired military servicemen) when I lived in San Diego (hubby went to law school with some, and I had several non LDS friends in military). I asked all of them if they served a mission, if they were BIC or converts. 12 were BIC (born LDS), and only one served a mission. The rest converted either after they were too old to serve a mission, already married or already in the military.
I stand by my statement, there are LDS service men but very few who either were able to serve an LDS mission or were BIC rather than converts.
My post quoting him was removed too. It was directed at us and we didn’t complain. Oh well...maybe he regretted it.
