Robert Millet would do things differently if he were carefully strategizing how fellow Mormons could best pursue interfaith contacts.

"I probably wouldn't have started with evangelicals," said the Brigham Young University (BYU) professor, considering the antagonism between the two groups since Mormonism's beginnings. "If we can have more civil and respectful relations with evangelicals, we can do it with anyone."

As a Christian, I certainly respect Mormons. I’ve known Mormons whose lifestyles I admire deeply, but theologically and on other terms - archeological evidence??? - I just cannot fathom their take on Christianity. ie: Jesus and Lucifer were brothers??? Jesus was a man who ‘earned’ his divinity???

A FAVORITE JOKE I was walking along a bridge, and I saw this guy on the bridge about to jump. So I yelled, “Don’t jump!” He said, “Nobody loves me.”
I said, “God loves you. Do you believe in God?”He said, “I do believe in God.”
I said, “Are you a Christian or a Jew?”
He said, “A Christian.”
I said, “Me too. Protestant or Catholic?”
He said, “Protestant.”
I said, “Me too! What franchise?”
He says, “Baptist.”
I said, “Me too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?”
He says, “Northern Baptist.”
I say, “Me too! Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist or Northern Conservative Reform Baptist?”
He says, “Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist.”
I say, “Me too! Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879 or Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?” He says, “Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912.”
I said, “Die, heretic scum!” And I pushed him over!

Robert Millet was a no-show at Wabash College Thursday night.

Leading Theologian of the Mormon Church Robert Millett To Give Talk

by Karen Handley
October 22, 2009

Wabash College Religion Department will host Robert Millett, for a talk at 7 p.m., Thursday, October 29, in room 216 of Center Hall. He will speak on “Mormonism and Jesus Christ.”

Millett is Professor of Religion at Brigham Young University and one of the leading theologians of the Mormon Church (Latter Day Saints). He is one of the most prolific and accomplished Mormon scholars. He has also written several books on the relationship between Mormonism and more traditional Christian beliefs. Millett believes that Mormon teachings are compatible with mainstream Christian beliefs, and has been involved in many high profile discussions and debates on this issue.

His talk is free and open to the public.

I drove ~ 180 miles round trip to hear him; but the room was empty at 7PM.

A few minutes went by and then some folks started showing up, but by 7:15 or so, one of the Mormon folks who had driven down from Purdue to hear him, called Robert Millet's home to find that the meeting had been re-scheduled.

Here is a lecture he gave a few years ago.....

"I probably wouldn't have started with evangelicals,"

Most evangelical Christians know their scripture, and are not going to be easily swayed by the illogical and heretical arguments of Mormons.

As a former Catholic, I can attest that most Catholics do not know their scripture, and do not study it anywhere near to the degree that evangelicals do. Therefore, it is a documented fact that Mormons are trying to convert Catholics in much greater numbers.

From the article: Mormon leaders specified that his message would need to be "generic and nondenominational." But Vujicic challenged LDS orthodoxy by insisting that "every human being is born with an evil nature," and by emphasizing that salvation cannot depend on a person's goodness because "you can't even forgive yourself." More than 100 people stood in response to his appeal for personal commitments to Jesus Christ, then filed to the rostrum to register decisions and hug Vujicic, who was born without arms or legs.

This, of course, counters the Mormon belief that children are innocent angels til age 8.

From the articleJohnson is "open to the possibility" that individual Mormons "have a relationship with Christ," but said, "Mormonism does not legitimately receive the label Christian."

From the article: Difficulties with acceptance date to Mormonism's origins in the 1820s. According to the LDS scriptures, God the Father directly commanded the prophet Joseph Smith Jr. to shun existing Christian churches because "all their creeds were an abomination in his sight" and their "professors were all corrupt."

From the article: ...the LDS God is married and has "a body of flesh and bones," one reason the Vatican ruled in 2001 that converts from Mormonism must be re-baptized...The LDS scriptures teach a plurality of gods (in the Book of Abraham, though Mormons reject the label polytheistic) and the millennial prospect that human saints will be "made equal with" God.

Hey, Ejon -- we were calling this last week -- the Lds "belief" that they have a plethora of gods -- but somehow "aren't polytheistic." (Go figure)

Somehow it doesn't surprise me that would be the favorite joke of a Mormon. They rely heavily on trying to leverage the divisions and man made failings within the True Body of Christ.

Sounds familiar, I think someone's alleged “brother” enjoys perpetuating such as well.

Fortunately that which binds us together, be we Catholic or Baptist, Orthodox or Lutheran, Episcopal or Methodist, is much stronger than the evil one, and anyone else who would benefit from his assistance in their work.

While ignoring their own!!!

Welcome to the Congregation of HaMishpacha Yahushua!

"Where there is no vision, the people perish; but he that keepeth the law, happy is he." Proverbs 29:18(IV(JST))

The Congregation of HaMishpacha Yahushua is a new community of Bible and Book of Mormon believers within the Restoration Movement.

We are a funky blend of traditional yet modern, and serious yet joyful.

We like to think of ourselves as "Whole Gospel Netzarim" in other words we believe the whole gospel, from Genesis to Moroni!

We are still growing in our understanding of the whole gospel, and are discovering many wonderful things that have challenged our traditions.

We, the Congregation of HaMishpacha Yahushua have come to believe that the church organized on April 6th, 1830, has been scattered by the hand of YHWH.

We believe the intense focus by the varying churches on being the "true and living church" has only served to distract the Saints and hinder the building up of the New Jerusalem.

But we know the designs of YHWH will not be frustrated, and that the New Jerusalem will be built in His own due time.

We believe that YHWH is revealing the importance of a return to Torah (the Law) in preparation for bringing about His purposes in regards to Zion.

We don't see ourselves as the "true and living church" but only a branch of that church.

We believe it is our mission to bring the Children of Israel (especially Ephraim and Manasseh) to a remembrance of the Law YHWH gave to us anciently and to be a place to learn and live that Law. Come, grow with us and restore the vision of Zion in your heart!

ALL are welcome... black, white, yellow, red, short, tall, fat, skinny, ugly, beautiful, saint or sinner!
