The Alberta Human Rights Commission has accepted a complaint brought against an Edmonton-area Catholic school board by a substitute teacher who was let go after she announced she was 'becoming' a man.
Janet Buterman, 39, had been employed by the Greater St. Albert Catholic School Board for about four months when, in June 2008, she informed deputy superintendent Steve Bayus that she was undergoing a 'sex change' and now wished to be treated as a man.
The following October, Mr. Bayus responded with a letter indicating that Buterman had been removed from the substitute teacher list because the procedures she was undergoing were in conflict with the Catholic teaching upheld by the school board.

These HRC star chambers are an affront to civilized law. They are nothing more than “political correctness tribunals”, with no review or appeal, and they are as abhorrent to the concept of justice and liberty as are lynch mobs.
In practice, they amount to private courts. As such, nothing prevents others from setting up their own private court with its own set of prerogatives. Perhaps communists should be kidnapped, tried and executed if found guilty. Muslims with shadowy connections to terrorist support organizations. Illegal immigrants.
Such things are indicative of the breakdown of social order.
It absolutely can. In fact, I would argue that it already has.
For many years our government has been steadily eroding property rights and the right to freely associate. Most people have supported this inappropriate excercise of government power on the grounds of protecting made-up "rights", or preserving "community standards", or to protect themselves from being offended.
Now new groups are successfully using the government to push their values, property rights and contract rights be damned. The chickens have come home to roost.
