(Video) The Beauty and Majesty of Liturgical Dance

I must say, this is one of the more sophisticated and expressive examples of liturgical dance I have seen over the years. The aesthetic value of the song which the dancer interprets in this video is amply betokened by his movements. . .

It was almost heretical....until it finished with the jazz hands.

That’s the part that shows the historical link with the liturgy.

Can’t have liturgical dance without jazz hands.

Patrick,

OK, so where do I send a bill for a replacement external keyboard? Mine shorted out. Thanks.

I believe the dancer and offscreen audience (crew?) betoked before undertaking betokening.

True, it is old, but at least it’s not pre-Vatican II.

“Liturgical Dance” is an oxymoron

Sorry guys. Lit dance just doesn’t work for me.

It mostly seems contrived, but beyond that it just doesn’t fit. It’s far me a “me” sport than a “Him” activity.

I really, really hope this is satire.

I think if you showed that video to Stephen Ray, he could choreograph the dance into something similar to what he describes King David doing after recovering the Arc.

surely you jest......if God understands it, o. k. I guess but if I were God (and sometimes I think it’s possible) I don’t think I’d be impressed.....fall on your knees, say thanks a lot, ask for reasonable gifts, and accept what you get (sometimes God says nope)

So that’s what Donny Osmond was up to in the 80s, huh?

(I once saw on a video monitor in a store, Donny Osmond in ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.’ It was horrific. Osmond played it as straight and unironic as if it were a Presbyterian passion play. Come on, Donny... You’re doing Joseph as Elvis. Can you not see that your tongue is supposed to be in your cheek???)

Fr. Steve Colbert is one of the spiritual giants of the 21st century, man!

And host of his own show on Comedy Central.

I'm ashamed to admit I rented that DVD once. I didn't know beforehand that watching it would offer enough penance for a month of confessions. I'm also ashamed I was not strong enough for that much penance. I am humbled by my weakness.
