Michael Newdow Atheists recruited to be part of a lawsuit that is trying to rid government ceremonies such as the inauguration of a president of any invocation or other prayer have claimed they are made physically ill by prayer.

"As I watched the inauguration, my stomach did a somersault with disgust for how much our country was violating the constitution (sic), the most important document in our country," wrote a 15-year-old in testimony being given to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

The lawsuit was filed before President Obama's inauguration and subsequently was dismissed at the district court level. Briefs now are being submitted to the appeals court in plaintiffs' hopes the case will be reopened.

"I felt a temporary state of disconnection when these religious statements and prayers were made during the inauguration," wrote another, according to an appendix of information submitted with the plaintiffs' recent arguments in the case.

(Story continues below)

"All the prayers made me feel excluded from the political process and a second-class citizen," wrote another. " But, when Chief Justice Roberts asked the president to say, 'So help me God,' I felt threatened and sick to my stomach."

I felt that way, too, Buddy. but it wasn’t about the prayer!

Ok, this is beyond just non-belief, this is an illness (of the mind, not stomach).

Now my father was an atheist and very very good friend is as well, but both of them are very tolerant of others and their faith. They both felt that religion wasn’t offensive as long as that religion didn’t impose the religious laws and rules onto their lives. Fair enough. But these people in this post have a problem.

Then you wander over to my mom, the spiritual warfare Pentecostal... and this sounds like (as my grandmother would say) “The Devil ain’t liking what he’s hearing. Satan gnashes his teeth when Jesus is praised!”

Good Lord why was I born to two opposites? I mean I have lived my life riding on the fence... BUT, in this case, I’m going with Granny. They get physically ill because Jesus is being praised.

Gee. If it's fatal they can begin to see what eternity truly means.

Then, of course, there's the poor deluded muslim youth who get up the stairs to allah only to find they've ran out of virgins and must take the elevator down to hell to join the atheists.

Mabe the athiest’s sick feeling is called guilt. Maybe the Holy Spirit is trying to get someone’s attention.

Maybe some holy water would do the trick. If you become physically ill from a prayer it may have something to do with the evil one. He sure does hate anything good and holy.

I think I will keep a little bottle handy to splash on some liberals I know, maybe it will wake them up. lol

LOL, such drama queens!

Basically the lawsuit boils down to this: it made ME feel bad, so I filed a lawsuit to stop the practice of public prayer, overturn the national tradition, and squelch the faith of millions ! As long as I don't have to feel my stomach turn over ever again ! It's my right !

Drama queen indeed.

This is the same Michael Newdow who tried to get the “In God We Trust” taken off of money and who is against the Pledge of Allegiance.

The world will be a better place when the likes of Michael Newdow are pushing up daisies.

The Saint Michael prayer is a good one and my favorite. If he wiped the floor with him once, he surely can and will do it again.

I suppose they also want to black out references to God in the Declaration of Independence and other historical documents. Can’t they just be happy with the right to be atheists and be tolerant of those who aren’t? They should worry more about sharia law being recognized in the US.

"Atheists say prayer makes them physically sick"

Can't we just tell them that's what we prayed for, and then they'd have proof of God?

The intolerance of atheists makes me sick. Or would if I weren’t an adult and able to tolerate the concept that others might have differing opinions. So why aren’t they adults?

What I don't understand is this.....if you don't believe in God, then how can someone praying to God make you sick? According to an atheist, a person is praying to nothing. So where's the harm? What are the damages? The only damage I can fathom is to that person's ego.....that everyone else doesn't bow to their wishes, and that offends them. Last time I checked, the Bill of Rights didn't include the right to not be offended.

Christian prayer that is.

Safe to say they have no problem with spending hours in a lotus position or going out in the desert and blowing a conch shell or dancing naked around a bonfire while howling at the moon.

Maybe the atheist’s sick feeling is called guilt.

It's probably 80% wanting attention, the sin of vanity, and 20% the sin of envy, wanting to deny or destroy something for someone else. This type of atheist has a lot in common with the typical vain vegetarian. They are always leftists.

Strong religious faith has many advantages. A key advantage, seldom recognized, is winning at war, and similarly winning at team sports. A nation that shuns religion, especially in its military, is doomed. The 5 to 10% of the population that have no capacity for religious faith should support the 90 to 95% that do for their own good.

Photobucket Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Power of God -
thrust into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.
