The issue with the funeral is not whether Kennedy repented or not and

Never said it did. My response was to a different question, more general in nature. Thought it was obvious.

I've said this before the CC condemns abortion with words but condones it with their actions. And how many are led astray because of that. That's major, IMO.

Within the past few months, they were given three opportunities to do the right thing - at Notre Dame, Georgetown U and Ted's funeral - and they failed miserably at each opportunity.

Yes, I think that was Phil Lawler’s point, and I agree.

In the course of this discussion, however, many people seem to keep coming back to the issue of Kennedy’s real or imagined repentance, and in my opinion, his private repentance (or not) is completely irrelevant to the real issue. I have been reading about this in other forums and people become obssessed with the state of Kennedy’s soul, which really isn’t of any significance in this case.

We’re talking about the effect of the Church publicly appearing to approve somebody who publicly rejected its teachings, not about whether Teddy Kennedy is frolicking in the Elysian Fields or toasting on a spit, and I was trying to state (not specifically to you, btw) that I think letting the discussion get dragged in that direction misses the point. I think that is precisely what Cdl O’Malley is trying to do, btw, drag it off into the personal and skip over the public scandal he has given.

Phil Lawler has done a good job of culling the stories and pointing out the misrepresentations of fact. Sadly, the Cardinals missed an opportunity to communicate the truths of the Catholic Church.

"Church" is pure, but men are not.

Since the church is comprised of men, I can say neither is pure. Only God's Word is pure.

I don't trust anybody with just a check.

I'm of the same mindset. Don't want to give temptation to anyone that may have a flaw in that area. If I can't give directly to a person in need, I have some outlets that I know are proven to be trustworthy.

Purgatory is not biblical.

Your own personal interpretation of Scripture is incorrect.

The funeral service should have been done by aging humble priest without a eulogy.

I am wondering if Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas will receive the same respect and public funeral Mass as St Teddy.

While he had the energy to petition for changing the way Senators where chosen when a vacancy arises, he did not have the energy to publicly renounce his stand on abortion.

Those are the facts.

What Kennedy did privately no one can know for certain. Personally, I am praying for his soul.

especially with obama at the pulpit.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Even more than the Kennedy funeral, that Obama was allowed at the pulpit, absolutely confuses me as a non-Catholic.

Why would the Catholic Church permit a person who voted 3 times to allow babies who survived abortion died on a stainless steel sink in a utility room? Obama is an avid proponent of abortion and birth control. He has appointed a man to his highest circle of advisers who supports **forced** birth control.

This Church claims to be the true church and the only church with Christ's true authority?

Correct me then - show me the Scriptures with your interpretation regarding purgatory. You are quick saying someone is wrong but never follow through w/what you think is correct. Prove me wrong this time.

Another “shovel-ready” project from Obama?

Evoloved??

What a strange word to use. I don’t consider myself “evolved”. I just try to live my faith to the best of my ability each day.

But it all boils down to one thing — “I am a sinner.” I must always seek forgiveness through the Sacrament of Reconsiliation.

Could be that the family didn’t want his contrition to go public. It would ruin his dimocrat image, now, wouldn’t it? LOL!

**Obama, leader in virtually every anti-Catholic policy there is, should never have been invited to say anything in a Church building. **

You are right there. It should have been done at the wake the night before.
