Is it right to pray that Trig Palin be healed of his Down Syndrome? Many parents of children with Down Syndrome think it's a horrible thing to do.
It is always right to pray for healing.
However, please be aware that God may have a different purpose in Trig’s Down’s Syndrome. We may see it as a handicap, but God might not.
I don’t know of anyone who thinks prayer is bad unless they are just radical atheists. Just remember the words of C.S. Lewis, prayer doesn’t change God, it changes you.
Never hesitate to pray for healing, it is always the right thing to do. ;-)
Prayer is communion and talking with God. Tell God whatever you want. He wouldn’t want it any other way. Just don’t forget to listen when God speaks. :) Communion, Talking, Relationships... it’s a two way street. Stay Strong! God Bless.

Keep in mind that Downs has many health problems—heart, joint, skin, etc. It varies widely in both condition and degree. Healing can come in a myriad of way—physical, emotional, and spiritual.
Well of course it is. Anyone would covet perfect health. They call Down’s Syndrome a disability for good reason. Let the Lord decide whether HE wants to.

There are prayers which might be considered bad when asking for things God would not find appropriate (e.g., asking for someone’s death). Prayers for healing would always be good in God’s eyes from all that I know from reading the Bible.
I have always felt that the mentally handicapped are put here to teach us love and many other things more than they are to learn themselves.
God always answers prayer. He may say yes, he may say no or he may say … wait a little while, but he always answers.

Since we can’t know the answer to your question, from God’s perspective, how about just praying that God’s will be done in Trig’s life?
I prayed for my friend’s Down Syndrome child but God chose not to heal her. She is a delightful young woman of 23, I believe, and I wouldn’t want her any other way. She’s a light.
DS makes this child’s life more challenging and he faces horrific discrimination.
I am an atheist and I say it’s perfectly fine to pray he’s relieved of Down’s Syndrome.
As it is a genetic disorder - an extra chromosome in what is normally the 21st pair - there can be no healing short of a literal miracle.
That said, the developmental limitations imposed by his condition vary from individual to individual. Prayer can’t hurt, especially if accompanied by love.
I do believe that praying for my friend’s child, along with all the others who were praying, helped her with her abilities. She’s pretty high functional.
I don’t agree with your assessment of his facing horrific discrimination. In most DS kids, I find that people are drawn to them because of their love and their innocence. They’re great kids and adults.
I shall continue to pray for Trig. Shall I not pray for others with Incurable diseases. What is wrong with praying for Trig, that offends the other parents? The O-Bots don’t have pray for, and No pray for lists, at least not yet.

Just pray.
If you feel moved to pray for him, then do so. If you feel moved to pray for people in your own life, then also do so. Trig already has a whole family of people praying for him, and God knows him very well, but there are probably people close to you who have only you to pray for them.
So I would focus my attention there, unless God showed you otherwise. Pray for the people you know who have only you to pray for them, and then pray for whoever God shows you to pray for. You may not know why at the moment but do it anyway.
I’m sure it’s OK, but it’s not something he’s going to be healed of. It’s a genetic problem.

He has an extra chromosone, how do you get rid of something that’s ingrained in his DNA?
I would suggest you pray so that he’ll grow up healthy and maybe even be a highly functioning individual.
As I recall, Downs Syndrome children often suffer other medical problems.
I think it’s appropriate to pray for him to stay healthy and that the Lord will protect him and his family.
In any case, that child is one of the fortunate ones among us. He is going to be loved his whole life long, whatever happens.
What we see as a handicap is really God's greatest gift, a life lived without sin. Trig's the lucky one; it's the rest of us that are screwed

Healing from what? Those with Down Syndrome have an extra chromosome in every cell in their body. “Lord, please remove the extra chromosome.”? Is that the prayer?

Children with Down's Syndrome can face a myriad of health complications and developmental difficulties that can, in some cases, be improved.
I would focus on the hope of good health and development.
Pardon me, I forgot all the Down Syndrome criminals we have filling our jail cells across the country. It's hard to commit something you can't conceptualize. As far as it being a gift, step outside this world and think of the next. What are decades of disability compared to an eternal glory? Like I said, he's the lucky one...

I don’t think it’s wrong to pray that someone be healed of their disability. Lord knows I’ve prayed enough myself. It would be a tremendous blessing if it happens, but if not, “it is so that the glory of God may be made manifest”.
I had the good fortune to know a someone with Down’s Syndrome for 40 years,and I never knew anyone that touched as many lives as he did.A sharp wit with a great dry sense of humor;he could fire off the one-liners with the best of ‘em.He lived to be 52,and HE ended up being his 90-year-old mother’s caretaker.Anyone would have considered themselves blessed to have had him for a son,a brother,or a friend.
People with Down syndrome have different levels of mental retardation. I don’t think having a severe disability is any kind of gift from God. Would you be happy if all your children had severe mental disabilities? Most people would love and accept them just the same, but anyone who wished that would have to have some mental disability of their own.
If you think people born with Down syndrome are lucky then it would only make sense that you wish there were more people born with it. That way of thinking just doesn’t make any sense to me.
