STATE OF NEW-HAMPSHIRE.
IN COMMITTEE of SAFETY,
EXETER, November 1, 1782.
ORDERED,
THAT the following Proclamation for a general THANKSGIVING on the twenty-eighth day of November, received from the honorable Continental Congress, be forthwith printed, and sent to the several worshipping Assemblies in this State, to whom it is recommended religiously to observe said day, and to abstain from all servile labour thereon.
M. WEARE, President.
By the United States in Congress assembled.
PROCLAMATION.
IT being the indispensable duty of all Nations, not only to offer up their supplications to ALMIGHTY GOD, the giver of all good, for his gracious assistance in a time of distress, but also in a solemn and public manner to give him praise for his goodness in general, and especially for great and signal interpositions of his providence in their behalf:
Therefore the United States in Congress assembled, taking into their consideration the many instances of divine goodness to these States, in the course of the important conflict in which they have been so long engaged; the present happy and promising state of public affairs; and the events of the war, in the course of the year now drawing to a close; particularly the harmony of the public Councils, which is so necessary to the success of the public cause; the perfect union and good understanding which has hitherto subsisted between them and their Allies, notwithstanding the artful and unwearied attempts of the common enemy to divide them; the success of the arms of the United States, and those of their Allies, and the acknowledgment of their independence by another European power, whose friendship and commerce must be of great and lasting advantage to these States:
Do hereby recommend to the inhabitants of these States in general, to observe, and request the several States to interpose their authority in appointing and commanding the observation of THURSDAY the twenty-eight day of NOVEMBER next, as a day of solemn THANKSGIVING to GOD for all his mercies: and they do further recommend to all ranks, to testify to their gratitude to GOD for his goodness, by a cheerful obedience of his laws, and by promoting, each in his station, and by his influence, the practice of true and undefiled religion, which is the great foundation of public prosperity and national happiness.
Done in Congress, at Philadelphia, the eleventh day of October, in the year of our LORD one thousand seven hundred and eighty-two, and of our Sovereignty and Independence, the seventh.
JOHN HANSON, President.
Charles Thomson, Secretary.
PRINTED AT EXETER.
I"ll start. I thank GOD for his mercy. I'm thankful for good health and close family. Most of all, I thank Him for His son Jesus Christ and the gift of salvation He offers freely to all mankind.
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
I’m thankful that I was able to live in America while it was still free - pre-2009.
In January, I was given 4-6 months to live...
I'm still here!
I am thankful for Salvation through Jesus Christ.
I am thankful for my wife and sons, and my sisters and father and other extended family.
I am thankful for my church, for my friends, and for a generally healthy life.
I am thankful that God chose for me to be born an American citizen in the great state of Texas, where even though our voters are easily misled by corrupt politicians and a complicit media, I still live in the best country in the world.
I am thankful for so many material blessings that even though I don’t have all I want, I have so much more than I deserve.
I am thankful that in two years we will be able to vote for a new congress and in four years we will be able to vote for a new president.
And I am also thankful that JimRob has given so much of himself to keep this great forum up and running.
FRegards and Happy Thanksgiving!
Praise God!
That's what I'm thankful for. Well, that and pecan pie.
Praise God. Every day is a gift and a blessing. May all of yours be filled with joy and peace.
I wish mine could be as positive as yours. I lost my very best friend a month ago and it’s making this a difficult holiday. He and I were extremely close for 40 years. It’s very hard on me that he’s not here.
I guess I can say that I AM thankful that I didn’t break any bones when I fell down the stairs last month. And I also found a wonderful little dog to replace my beloved Lucky who passed away in July after 19 years.
I don’t mean to be sounding negative........it’s just not been the best of years for me.
Here’s a good one: I’m very thankful for my adopted son and his three beautiful squids coming over on Wednesday to “do” the turkey on Thursday. That’s just about the only bright spot for me, so Thank You God for allowing them into my life.
And although it's not exactly what your thread is dedicated to, I'd like to voice my profound disgust and umbrage with those who use the term "Turkey Day". It implies that the entire purpose of this holiday is to consume turkey, whereas it's a holiday uniquely dedicated to Thanking Our Lord for all he's provided us here on earth.
There's little more revolting in a person's character than ingratitude and the use of the term "Turkey Day" shines a kleig light on that trait.

Not even for Free Republic? Your health? A roof over your head? Plenty of food? Another day to breath? Nothing?
I thank God for my King Jesus, and for giving me the perfect wife for me and the best little eight year old boy in the world and for all my grown kids, for a nice home, free and clear, for the 40 or 50 full cords of wood, split and stacked, and for the wonderful privilege of living in the USA where all of this has been possible, and for all you conservatives who love freedom, and want to keep the USA from becoming the USSA. God bless all of you.
O’ LORD my GOD;
I thank YOU for the many Blessings, that YOU have seen fit to bestow upon me;
The blessed day & the weather that YOU have seen fit so send, for my Wife & kids that YOU have sent to me, the critters that have been sent to live with us & enrich our lives, for this home, so we may try to live in & by YOUR word.
For my life & health, and the lessons that YOU have sent to me in the hopes of trying to teach me something,[even though I may not get the lesson the first time, for I am hard headed and may need an additional assistance in the learning of YOUR lesson]
Thank YOU for send YOUR only Son JESUS down as a mear mortal, but Who became so much more. Who shed HIS life’s blood & life on the cross to rediem everybody’s sin at that includes meself as well.
In this I pray in the name of YOUR SON;
Amen
Cut him some slack; I mean, he lives in New Jersey. ;-)
Good health
Wonderful family and friends
A good job that I enjoy doing
Freedom (no doom-and-gloom comments, please. I intend to keep my freedom.)
So many other blessings that are countless in number
I am thankful that my God is still in control, no matter how out of control things are around me.
I am thankful that my house is still standing after a direct hit from Hurricane Ike.
I am thankful for family, friends and my country.
I am thankful for the food I am going to eat Thursday. AND I am especially thankful somebody else will be doing all the cooking this year... and I just get to EAT!!!
I just said a little prayer for you. My condolences on your loss of a dear friend.
“That no matter how pathetic my life may seem, I was not responsible for the first portrait of Obama made entirely out of beans.”......
Perhaps a liberal with to much time on his/her hands?....
It’s all beans to me for next four years anyway.....
I’m thankful that I’ve had the time and resources to stockpile food, gold, guns & ammo, and that everyone in my family is happy and healthy.
The devoted comrade that made that will probably be picking it apart for nourishment in a few years...
Thank you for that. It’s very hard for me right now. (and it didn’t help that I was the one who found him)
But I feel a little less down now, just thinking about the kids and the big dinner and stuff. They are what keeps me going.
Have a very Happy Thanksgiving, Allegra!
I can empathize. I lost my sister of 62 years Sept. 28th after she lost her 5 month battle with illness in ICU. As her brother I was also her power of attorney and she left all decision-making to me. The hardest decision I ever had to make was to have all life support stopped and then be by her side as she crossed over into eternity. One day I'll see her again and we'll sit at the table together celebrating a REAL Thanksgiving.
Try to focus on celebrating the 40 blessed years you had together with your very best friend and the 19 years of good times you had with Lucky. They blessed your life for many years.
OMG Allegra......
I just looked at your profile page. I had no idea you were in Iraq. Such wonderful photos!
Very proud to know ya!!!
I am thankful that I am not a liberal.
A FRiend after my own liking..... ;-)
I will...I'm coming home! Leaving tomorrow and arriving early a.m. Thanksgiving morning. (I'm packing as I FReep.)
You have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving too and enjoy the time with the kids.
Time will heal. And in the meantime, you'll be in my prayers for comfort, solace and strength.
Ha! I am neither well organized, nor a bean-portrait maker. :-P
Thank God.
Very nice Vast - I, too, am thankful for my family and friends, for the freedom we currently enjoy and for the courage of our military. I am thankful for my Savior and for the life I am blessed to lead and lastly, I am thankful for the ability to see past empty promises and fancy rhetoric. I am thankful that I will be able to proudly say “I didn’t vote for him”.
Where is that artist that created the Madonna in fecal matter.....?
Thank you. And sorry for your loss. Holidays always make a loss a little more painful, I think.
And yes.....we WILL celebrate John’s life, and Lucky’s as well. You just gave me a great idea........I have John’s MIDI musical equipment and I think we just may go out there and write a song for him........me and the kids. Yeah.
Bless you.
Hmm, I wonder if I could get a grant...
You have had a bad year, but you need to remember that your friend will always be with you. When you hear a joke, or do something you and he used to do, smile and remember him and he will be alive again. He will live in your memories and shared experiences. Don’t let him down - smile and think of him often.
That is incredible! May you have many more days/weeks/months/years to enjoy!
You have kids, right? Seems to me a Mom with talented kids could make an “artistic” statement......
I bet he’d like that. To be played/sang in his honor when opportunity arises. A fitting tribute. And be sure to spoil those grandsquids rotten!
BTTT.
Best to you. BTW ya got a great Home Page.
And finally, I am grateful for Free Republic.
Thank you. He is indeed with me. About half of the way I talk was like him talking. We had a mirror image sense of humor.
Yes, I think he’s here, and I am receiving “messages” from him. He wants me to stop the pain.....and I’m working on it. It’s called moving forward. It’s rough, but I’m making headway.
Happy Thanksgiving to you, Texasgirl.
O, btw, he was from Tunkannock PA.
He definitely would like it. And those grandsquids get so much joy coming here, they pass it on to me.
Happy Thanksgiving OB!
I’m thankful this is the first year I didn’t have to hide the bodies. I’m thankful for the constant company of the radioactive robot zombies that follow me everywhere. I’m thankful I finally quit huffing glue. I’m thankful no one saw that incident in the Yankees dugout, and I deny everything. I’m thankful every woman who sees me runs away, screaming. I’m thankful most of the restraining orders are lifted.
Whew...I still wake up in a cold sweat thinking she'd be about out of her home about now had I not gotten itchy.
Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Eggsackley.
Ah, Laz. What would FRee Republic be without you? You’re a blessing to us all! Have a good Thanksgiving!
