Pope's tree blossoms (in Israel): 'a miracle' [Open]
Earth Times ^ | July 20, 2008

Tel Aviv- A tree blessed eight years ago by Pope John Paul II during his visit to the Holy Land was the only one in its plot of land to produce olives this year, a Jewish National Fund official said. "It is a miracle," Yossi Karni from the JNF, which maintains the plot, told local media.

During a visit to northern Israel, near the Sea of Galilee, John Paul blessed a tree that was planted on the Mount of Beatitudes, where according to Christian beliefs Jesus gave his Sermon on the Mount.

Karni noted that all the trees on the plot were treated equally, but the ones that did not receive the blessing have not given fruit this year.

"They get treated the same, watered the same," he said, adding that some trees had even started to wither, which he could not explain.

When asked what he would do with the olives, Karni, with a wry smile, told Israel's Channel 10 he might market their "holy oil."

A better title would have been: Pope’s tree bears fruit: ‘a miracle’

This doesn't make sense! The Pope is the source of all anti-Christian behavior in the world! It is just a coincidence! Or, no, its the work of Satan! Fooling everyone into believing the Pope was a holy man! He's eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil!

That about covers it.

Interesting.

Not a believer in the so-called prophecies of St. Malachi, but its interesting to note pope in the prophecies the pope said to equate with Pope Benedict is called “The Glory of the Olives”, I believe.

Hmm kind of interesting that the only one to bear fruit is the one the pope touched. Even more interesting is that he plans on selling these olives as holy oil. Hmm I think this guy saw a marketing opportunity the moment the pope touched the plant and made sure the others did not receive the same attention.

“he might market their ‘holy oil.’”

I’ll bet.

What garbage.

Wasn’t John Paul II suffering from dementia eight years ago?

Nothing has changed since Jesus walked the Earth and worked His miracles.

Believers will see them as signs from God while the cynics, skeptics and naysayers will always find some excuse to dismiss them.

I found this photo taken in 2007, on the web. Not sure if this is the same tree.

Psalm 52:

But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.
I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

"Not a believer in the so-called prophecies of St. Malachi...but...Pope Benedict is called “The Glory of the Olives”, I believe."

Interesting note, but the first 11 words of the article read, "A tree blessed eight years ago by Pope John Paul II..."

Did bless it with this? One year I thought I saw him throwing fertilizer spikes to the crowd from his Pope Mobile.

I think he is throwing them in this picture:

Psalm 128:3 (127:3 in the Vulgate):

Filii tui sicut germina olivarum in circuitu mensae tuae.

Your children shall be like olive shoots around your table.

Lol, you had to spoil it, didn't you?!!

There's somewhat of a similar market of supposedly Biblical olive tree wood novelties, there.

Why is your pope wasting his time on olive trees when he could be healing people??? He's the biggest sinner of all...

Jas 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

I believe you meant to write "Why is there sickness in the world? Why is there AIDS?

Why do you waste your time on these threads bashing the Holy Father and the Catholic Church? What are you trying to prove to yourself?

Because you guys insist on calling your pope 'Holy Father'...There is only one Holy Father and He doesn't sit on a throne in Italy...

Another is you guys try to lure people with your religion claiming it's the religion Jesus founded by posting stories like this one about your pope performing perceived miracles...That apparently makes your pope more holy than the average guy...

If your pope was really performing a miracle, the olive trees would have blossomed right there and produced fruit...

Jesus never performed a miracle that took 10 months to develop...Your pope is not performing miracles...

I don't care what you people do as a religion...You can pray over a car battery and turn it into cranberry sauce and have a Thanksgiving dinner ever day...Doesn't matter to me...

But how many posts have you made that claim your religion is the only true, real, relevant, Christian church that Jesus founded??? Too many to count...So why would you expect everyone to sit back, sit still and keep quiet while you spew this nonsense???

Every time you make that claim, you spit in the face of every born-again, bible believing Christian out there...Why would you expect people to sit still for that???

And the worse part of it is; there may be lurkers out there who may fall for a ridiculous story about your pope being a Holy Father, or your pope performing a miracle that took months to take place and all it was, was a tree that grew some leaves...Those people need to see the 'other side'...

He is the Vicar of Christ on earth, i.e., he is the successor of Peter, chosen by Christ to lead His Church. (Matt. 16:19 ) He is a "spiritual" father, hence the title of Holy Father.

But how many posts have you made that claim your religion is the only true, real, relevant, Christian church that Jesus founded???

How many churches did Jesus Christ found? According to Scripture, only one. In Matt. 16:18, Jesus says, "I will build my 'Church' (not churches)." There is only one Church built upon one Rock with one teaching authority, not many different denominations, built upon various pastoral opinions and suggestions. In the next verses, Matt. 16:19; 18:18, Jesus gave the apostles binding and loosing authority. But this authority requires a visible Church because "binding and loosing" are visible acts. The Church cannot be invisible, or it cannot bind and loose.

In the Book of John, John 10:16, Jesus says there must only be one flock and one shepherd. This cannot mean many denominations and many pastors, all teaching different doctrines. According to Col. 1:18, Christ is the Head of the one body, the Church. He is not the Head of many bodies or many sects.

Every time you make that claim, you spit in the face of every born-again, bible believing Christian out there...Why would you expect people to sit still for that???

Jesus said: "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life". It is He, out of love for you and every other person on the face of the earth, who established one Church. What Church? Scripture reveals this Church to be the one Jesus Christ built upon the rock of Saint Peter (Matt. 16:18). By giving Peter the keys of authority (Matt. 16:19), Jesus appointed Peter as the chief steward over His earthly kingdom (cf. Isaiah. 22:19-22). Jesus also charged Peter to be the source of strength for the rest of the apostles (Luke 22:32) and the earthly shepherd of Jesus' flock (John 21:15-17). Jesus further gave Peter, and the apostles and elders in union with him, the power to bind and loose in heaven what they bound and loosed on earth. (Matt. 16:19; 18:18). This teaching authority did not die with Peter and the apostles, but was transferred to future bishops through the laying on of hands (e.g., Acts 1:20; 6:6; 13:3; 8:18; 9:17; 1 Tim. 4:14; 5:22; 2 Tim. 1:6).

By virtue of this divinely-appointed authority, the Catholic Church determined the canon of Scripture (what books belong in the Bible you love so much) at the end of the fourth century. You and every other christian, therefore, believe in the Scriptures on the authority of the Catholic Church.

Since the Church is Christ's Bride (Ephesians 5:29), can Christ be married to more than one wife? No, Christ can only have one wife, i.e., one Church, not many.

He is the Vicar of Christ on earth, i.e., he is the successor of Peter, chosen by Christ to lead His Church. (Matt. 16:19 ) He is a "spiritual" father, hence the title of Holy Father

Your church has butchered that verse to the point that it is unrecognizable...

You keep pointing to that verse and it doesn't at all mean what you want it to mean...

In Matt. 16:18, Jesus says, "I will build my 'Church' (not churches)." There is only one Church built upon one Rock with one teaching authority,

Exactly...And the Rock is Jesus...And the teaching authority is God and his written word...It is certainly not people at your church you have changed THEIR teachings numerous times over the course of history, adding to and substracting from the word of God...

In the next verses, Matt. 16:19; 18:18, Jesus gave the apostles binding and loosing authority. But this authority requires a visible Church because "binding and loosing" are visible acts.

The people in your church can not even agree on what this verse means let alone claim authority for it...

In the Book of John, John 10:16, Jesus says there must only be one flock and one shepherd. This cannot mean many denominations and many pastors, all teaching different doctrines. According to Col. 1:18, Christ is the Head of the one body, the Church. He is not the Head of many bodies or many sects

When one studies the Scriptures instead of the Catholic church by-laws, he/she finds out that what you are saying is not true...

That's exactly why Martin Luther was so adamant about average people being able to read for themselves what God said...And that's why you have so many millions of non-Catholics today...

Jesus Christ is the HEAD of ALL Christians regardless of where they chose to worship...

Jesus said: "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life". It is He, out of love for you and every other person on the face of the earth, who established one Church. What Church? Scripture reveals this Church to be the one Jesus Christ built upon the rock of Saint Peter (Matt. 16:18).

Again, you are misquoting the verse and misunderstanding the verse...We may have had to believe you in the past but now we have the Scripture in front of us so we know your church is not telling the truth...

By giving Peter the keys of authority (Matt. 16:19),

Mat 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven:

You're church is making this up and you are falling for it...Your church doesn't know what the Kindgom of Heaven is so they change the word Kindom to 'power'...That is not what the verse says...The subject is the keys of the Kingdom...Until you understand the Kingdom, Scripturally, you have no idea what the keys are...

Jesus appointed Peter as the chief steward over His earthly kingdom (cf. Isaiah. 22:19-22).

Absolutely false...And the one or two verses you guys try to use to prove this only proves your church has no clue as to the Kingdom...Currently the Kindgom is a Spiritual Kingdom...That'w why our enemies are spiritual...

Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

And who do you think doesn't want us to know that???

There is no flesh and blood involved in God's current Kingdom...It's 100% Spiritual...

Puhlease.... if you are going to post commentary, provide specific source material rather than what others have told you.

Example:

NYer: He is the Vicar of Christ on earth, i.e., he is the successor of Peter, chosen by Christ to lead His Church. (Matt. 16:19 ) He is a "spiritual" father, hence the title of Holy Father

Iscool: Your church has butchered that verse to the point that it is unrecognizable...

You keep pointing to that verse and it doesn't at all mean what you want it to mean...

I have provided Scriptural support for my statement; please do the same.
