Priest charged with sex attack on young woman on airplane

A local priest was charged with assault yesterday after he allegedly fondled a 16-year-old girl on an airplane.

The Rev. Tomasz Adam Zielinski, 31, was removed from his position at Christ the King Church in Manville as a result of the federal charges, according to church officials.

Zielinski, a Polish citizen, served as an associate pastor at the Somerset County parish since April and is staying in the United States on a religious visa.

The incident occurred aboard a July 5 flight from Poland on which Zielinski was returning from a vacation. He allegedly groped the girl and attempted to unzip her pants, according to a criminal complaint filed yesterday in federal court in Newark.

The girl left her seat and asked for assistance from the flight crew, who moved her to a different seat for the remainder of the flight, authorities said.

Zielinski approached the girl in her new seat, apologized and asked for her forgiveness, the complaint said. The flight crew ordered him back to his own seat. FBI agents interviewed him four days later and he confessed, according to the complaint.

Zielinski's priest's collar offered a jarring juxtaposition with the shackles at his wrists and ankles as he shuffled into court yesterday.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Claire Cecchi released him on a $10,000 bond and ordered him to surrender his passport, attend mental health counseling and avoid contact with minors.

Assistant U.S. Attorney L. Judson Welle said the priest could face up to six months in prison, a $5,000 fine and deportation to Poland.

What is it with people groping on planes? I have seen several stories like this. The last thing I would ever consider sitting next to strangers is even touching an arm by accident. It is like being packed into a leper colony. First class all the way or fly your own.

Yes. At least the Catholic church didn't move him to another diocese so he could molest others and then try to pay the girl off which is their usual modus operandi.

Don't worry. There's still time.

No kidding! A 16 year old girl? I'll bet she was a hottie with a stud in her belly-button. At least it was a female he was after... those Catholics are getting better and better all the time.

You go, Priestfriend!

The Associated Press reported recently that three insurance companies receive upward of 260 reports each year of young people under 18 being sexually abused by Protestant clergy, challenging the assumption that clergy sexual abuse is an exclusively Catholic problem that does not take place in other churches.

That is a higher number than the annual average of 228 “credible accusations” brought against Catholic clerics in records reported by the Catholic Church in response to media scrutiny, a priest observed in a Fox News commentary questioning why the story isn’t garnering more attention.

The Catholic-hating Express rolls on.

Please don't tar all of us with the same brush. This Baptist has no problem with Catholic folks...as a matter of fact we share an awful lot of common ground.

Just because we disagree on some of the details doesn't mean we hate you.

I'm not challenging that assumption.

My problem is that the Catholic Church added and abetted these pedophiles in the commission of their crimes.

Even as liberal as some of these Protestant churches are, I never heard of one of them shipping one of their pedophiles off to another state and paying off the victims. Educate me if I'm in error.

I wonder of Petronski has expressed his displeasure with similar Proddie-hating posts that have been posted around here as of laye?
