Wednesday, July 02, 2008 Castrillón satisfied with SSPX answer SSPX will give heed to the five points From the blog of Andrea Tornielli (Vatican correspondent for Il Giornale):

I have learned from secure sources that, contrary to what has appeared in certain articles, the response of the Fraternity [of Saint Pius X - FSSPX/SSPX] to the letter of Cardinal Castrillón has not in fact been negative. The Cardinal is satisfied with it, has responded to Fellay, and has promptly delivered the letter of the Fraternity to Benedict XVI. After the deadline of the end of June, the Lefebvrists [sic] ask for time but - it seems - they will respect the five points.

The liturgical crisis should be over any century now.

There is a Lefebvrist Mass not too far from where I live. I really would like to check it out, see what the crowd is like. A friend of mine goes and says they get about 60 people.

This may just be another unfounded rumor - time will tell.

Today, July 2, it is exactly 20 years since the motu proprio Ecclesia Dei.

Well, I’ll just wait for the official pronouncement, either way. The Italian sources, allegedly “in the know,” have had the SSPX accepting, then refusing, and now accepting again, the conditions. All in less than a week. Which is it? I hope Tornielli is right this time!

What is true for sure is that the Transalpine Redemptorists sought and have been awarded recognition from Rome. They will now petition for conditions of status.

Lots of nice things can happen when you agree to obey Peter who is now represented on earth by a kindly Bavarian theologian named Benedict XVI.

BTW, the Oxford martyrs are being given a plaque of recognition...

;-o)

Transalpine Redemptorists reconciled with Holy See

Rome, Jul. 2, 2008 (CWNews.com) - The Transalpine Redemptorists, a small traditionalist community on the island of Orkney, has been reconciled with the Holy See, the Rorate Caeli blog has revealed.

Father Michael Mary, the vicar general of the Transalpine Redemptorists, announced on the group’s own blog that the community had been informed that the suspension of its priests has been lifed by the Vatican. “All canonical censures have been lifted,” he said, and the group has been welcomed into “undisputed communion” with the Holy See.

The traditionalist leader said that he had “humbly petitioned” the Vatican for a restoration of communion, in a June 18 meeting with Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos (bio - news), the president of the Ecclesia Dei commission. The Vatican replied positively on June 26, he reported.

Father Michael Mary expressed his gratitude, and that of the Transalpine Redemptorists, to Pope Benedict XVI (bio - news), “for issuing, last July, the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum which called us to come into undisputed and peaceful Communion with him.”
