The great harlot of revelations (open)
revelations- king james | 6 05 08 | Clifford Randles

Posted on 06/05/2008 12:51:12 PM PDT by ravenwolf

Many people believe that the great harlot that revelations talks about is the cathlic Church and that the daughters of the great harlot is the protestant churches. and that makes sense to me more than any thing else.

The catholic Church has claimed to change the saboth day from the seventh day ( saterday ) to the first day ( sunday ).

And of course the protestants went right along with it, have you noticed that especialy in long gone days many of the religious people worked harder and worked thier animals harder on what they called the saboth than they did other days of the week even though it was the day they called the saboth? Was not the saboth to be a day of rest?

While it is true that the early Christians held Church service on sunday, sometimes from sundown on saturday until early sunday morning, it was probably done in respect of the saboth, not because they wanted to change the saboth to sunday.

The christian churches has changed the christian faith to a religion, a religian that is destroying the whole concept of what christianity was supposed to be in the first place, we just as well be back in the days before Christ for all the good it has done as far as the teachings of the churches are concerned.

Preachers love to collect tithes even though they have no authority to collect them, are they collecting tithes for the levites? who were the only ones who was given the authority to collect them, are they going to Isreal? no I don,t think so.

Jesus said when you give do not let the left hand know what the right hand does, is that the way people do it? no I think most people deducts it from thier income tax.

Luke ch 11 verse 39 now do ye pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter: but your inward part is full ravening and wickedness.

I believe anyone can read the Bible and see for thenselves that it was not the romans or the so called sinners that caused the death of our Lord, no it is plain that it was caused by the religious leaders.

And if Jesus came again bodyly which he will not, they would do the same thing again, because they would not be looking for a man, they would be looking for something they have concieved in thier own mind and Jesus could not fit the image they have of him, he could be drinking a little wine with the sinners or maybe even smoking a cigar.

There is no doubt that jesus kept the commandments of God because they were his commandments, but we need to see the difference between Christs commandments and the commandments of some of the preachers.

What is the difference between the churchs today and the churchs in the apostles time?

Today they try to get everyone to become a member of the church.

In the apostles time anyone could be a christian and be saved but not anyone could become a member of the church.

The members were for serving, and for preaching of the gospel, would a new member be good at trying to teach to the new members? read acts real good and also timothy chapter 5 even better.

Thats right you shoild not take my word for it nor anyone elses, read it for yourself

To understand the Bible better it is a good Idea to look up definations, for instance read every scripture that is associated with the same word, find out what it means,

for example what does glorified mean, what does resurection mean, they have been glorified, we will be glorified, what does lifted up or raised mean?

Have a good day and may God bless you with the truth.

So God is most concerned with the calendar and doesn't really put any stock in treating one of seven days as the Sabbath?

I guess those people on desert island who forget to mark a day are damned.

Not as many as you might think.

But at any rate, I don't suspect everything here is as it seems.

Paul studied at the feet of Gamaliel. So no, Paul was a man of letters. But he was “one born out of due time.”

So, I wasn’t counting the man who wrote the bulk of the New Testament.

File this one under - He ain’t heavy he’s my brother.

The basic tenet of your post is well received, or should be; however, not to pile on as with the other criticisms, but it is “Revelation” not Revelations. It is the revelation of Jesus Christ, not a serious of prophetic pronouncements

There are other schools of thought, especially amongst Messianic Jews, who think the harlot is Radical Islam and Babylon burning is Mecca with the sea of oil under it set on fire. - I don’t know, but it’s interesting.

And if Jesus came again bodyly which he will not
And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them. Tey also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven."
Acts 1:9-11

For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh This is the deceiver and the antichrist.

Neither was I. The Twelve weren't of high station, but neither were they illiterate. They had been educated in the synagogues, some were professionals in the community, and some were already disciples of John the Baptist.

All of which misses the point - which is that this seems as much like a troll trying to create a persona as it does a 'mere innocent' fumbing around.

Acts 4:13
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

I never said that it wasn't. However, one notable difference is that in the passage you cite, Peter and John were both sincere AND correct. I don't have much evidence that this is true for the poster in question - and, the history of this forum gives me much cause for suspicion to the contrary.

"So God is most concerned with the calendar..."

The only calendar that God is concerned with is his own. His sabbath, and his appointed times remain as he instituted them, and it is not up to man to change them. Sunday worship, Christmas, and Easter are apostasy, and cannot replace the sabbath, Tabernacles and Passover.

Interesting to note that Paul had quite a bit to say about the sabbath including:

Colossians 2:16
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

You are so wrong.

The Catholic Church is the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church founded by Christ in the Bible.

Who even translated the Bible so that you can have your KJV, etc.???

It was the Catholic Church.

Consider the following passage from the Synaxion of Pascha, a text read on the Feast of the Resurrection in Orthodox Churches throughout the world:

As for the day of week, which is called in Hebrew, the first day, being dedicated to our Lord for his glorification and magnification, it is called in Greek Kyriake, or the Lord’s Day. The Disciples transferred to it the dignity of the sabbath after the law of the Old Testament, and prescribed that it be a holiday and a day of rest.

This is an example of the power to bind and loose given to the Apostles by Our Lord. Sunday (as it is called in English, but properly The Lord's Day, if we translate the Greek) has always been the Christian day of worship. As for Saturday, it is still called Sabbaton, the Sabbath, in Greek, and in monastic usage is also always a day when the Liturgy is celebrated--indeed Orthodox monks (save the priest or deacon who must commune at the Sunday Liturgy) most often make their communion on Saturday.

Trying to make sense out of the history of the Church armed only with a Bible, a vague sense of how the West developed and one's prejudices generally comes up short.

May I suggest Jaroslav Pelikan's 4 volume history of the Church--written by the last century's foremost Church historian (he was raised as a Lutheran, but his studies convinced him to embrace Holy Orthodoxy late in life). It kind of fills in the gaps as to what really happened after the end of Acts and the hints we get from St. Paul's reminders to the local churches he founded or visited.
