Krakow, May. 21, 2008 (CWNews.com) - A Polish newspaper has predicted that the beatification of Pope John Paul II will take place next year.
Zycie Warszawy speculates that the late Pontiff could be beatified on April 2, the anniversary of his death, or on October 16, 2009, the anniversary of his election to the papacy.
Earlier this month another Polish newspaer, Dziennik, had said that the beatification could take place on October 16 of this year, the 30th anniversary of John Paul's election. That prediction appeared unrealistic, since the cause for beatification of the late Pontiff still has several hurdles to clear and organizers will want ample time to prepare for the ceremony.
The new prediction by Zycie Warszawy matches a story produced by SIR, the news agency of the Italian bishops' conference, suggesting that Pope John Paul will be beatified within the next year.
Needs a miracle, right?
There have already been one or two miracles attributed to him.

With all due respect, I find this a bit bizarre, not to say unseemly and “enthusiastic”.
Surely you remember the cries for "Santo Subito!!!!" at his funeral...
I've got to agree with you. While he was a great man and in spite of popular acclaim, the Roman curia must be as stringent scrutinizing his life as they would anyone else's.
There are already 2 documented miracles - the cure of a nun from Parkinson's disease and a Neapolitan man of lung cancer.
>>With all due respect, I find this a bit bizarre, not to say unseemly and enthusiastic.<<
Me too!
A wonderful, spiritual man that allowed the smoke of Satan into our seminaries while he “ministered” to non-Catholics.
>>Surely you remember the cries for “Santo Subito!!!!” at his funeral... <<
I really don’t care about that at all.
I pray that this waits, a good long time until we see his “fruits”.
Some people will like this ——
Others will not.
Hmmmm.
So? I could predict that he’ll be beatified on November 3, 2287 ... with the same level of authority as this source.
Way too early.
I think his death was heroic and if anything, that should be examined. But the Church completely collapsed during his pontificate and he did little to nothing to bring it back. He had a very hands-off management style at a crucial moment. I think he became sort of a cult of personality, which may have attracted some people but did nothing to help the Church as a whole.
He may well qualify for sainthood on a personal level, however, because he was truly heroic in letting the media at him when he was no longer a star but a dying elderly man. But I think perhaps one has to separate his governance of the Church from his personal sanctity.
That’s the reason I would like to see this proceed slowly; but on the other hand, many people have made it to beatification and no further. So we shall see, I guess...
“Surely you remember the cries for “Santo Subito!!!!” at his funeral...”
Yes...enthusiasm.
“I think he became sort of a cult of personality, which may have attracted some people but did nothing to help the Church as a whole.”
As a general proposition, he was not particularly well thought of among Orthodox people, from hierarchs on down. It was precisely this personality cult, what we saw as his showman style and frankly his distinctly un-Orthodox, rather loose theology which turned us off. That said, I oubt his personal holiness wasn’t doubted. You know what we think of +BXVI.
The sooner the better. This man was a saint.
Second it myself. Remember this Pope helped bring many young people to faith in God. This is why there is a “JPII generation”. Also with the help of both Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thacther, he started the liberation of first Poland, then then the rest of Eastern Europe. That being said, the man is a saint.
At least thank JPII for helping to liberate Eastern Europe from the oppression of communism.
Please see posts number 16 and 17.
One of the fruits is the “JPII generation”. He planted the seeds with the starting of the WYD. Plus the need for Papacy to make visits to the nations the Church is in. This most recent trip to America of B16 would not be possible if the foundation was not laid by his predisesor.
It would not suprise me if JPII is beautifield next year, although that would be the shortest time after a saintly person’s passing for the person to be beautifield. But then again, Blessed Mother Teresia of Calcutta was made blessed only after 5 years after her passing.
Yeah, I wish only the good fruits would have matured.
The problem is many of the “fruits” are in our seminaries. JPII worried so much about others he forgot his own flock.
And I’m a Pole. The man was wonderfully spiritual but misguided.
>>But the Church completely collapsed during his pontificate and he did little to nothing to bring it back<<
You’ve got that right!
That is what all Popes (and bishops and priests) are supposed to do.
Agreed.
The sooner the better!
I declare to you that John Paul II shall be beatified DD/MM/YYYY (where DD is the date, MM is the month and YYYY is the year).
Of this there can be no doubt.
I think two to be beautifield. Bear with my spelling, I just got up and is having my first cup of coffee.
JPII blazed a trail so that Benedict XVI and our bishops and priests can do so. Thank him.
Thank him because with the liberation of Eastern Europe Christians are allowed to worship freely once again.
May it this happen soon.
A great man, heroic to Catholics and protestants alike.
“Thank him because with the liberation of Eastern Europe Christians are allowed to worship freely once again.”
As we should certainly also thank Ronald Reagan.
You’re a prophet, Petronski!
Please see post 16. Thanks.
All faithful priests, bishops, and popes throughout history have led Catholics to greater holiness and ultimately to heaven. That is not a trail blazed by JPII and is not a definitive criterion for canonization.
I didn't know the Orthodox felt that way about JP2. And what do they think of B16?
“And what do they think of B16?”
Many are of the opinion, I among them, that we are seeing the first true Father of The Church in near 700 years.
I like B-16 for his mind, and while I could appreciate the power of JP2's charisma, intellect always impresses me a whole lot more.
Since 'the smoke of Satan' entered our seminaries in the late 1950's, 1960's and early 1970's, I don't see what a priest, later bishop, in Poland could have done about it.
